Center USB not connected
Hi,
My 2015 320i has a usb and aux port in the center console, the aux works and so does Bluetooth streaming. However, I can’t get the USB port to read anything (not my phone nor fat32 drive), it just always says not connected and stays greyed out... Is it defective, do I just replace the port, what do you guys think is going on? Thanks |

Maybe a fuse? Not sure if the USB port has a fuse, but I know one time my power outlet in the cup holder area stopped working. I had to replace the fuse and it was good as new. Could be the same with the USB?

Thanks I will try that, it looks like other threads say it’s fuse 13.
I just bought this car (used) and it hasn’t worked since I got it, is it possible that usb was never activated?, or if the USB port is there it should work? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question. But I see threads of Bluetooth/usb activation, and I’m curious if usb has to be coded in if the 1st buyer didn’t buy it... Thank you |

Is there a USB in the glovebox? It's possible the previous owner relocated it there.
Does the car have enhanced bluetooth? If so, shouldn't need the Y Cable as my 2012 didn't. |

Sounds like you do have Enhanced Bluetooth, but even then the USB port should have been working from the factory. I have navigation in my vehicle and it works. My previous f30 which was a '14, didn't have any features and I'm pretty sure the USB port worked as well.
Does the phone at least charge when you plug it in? If not, then it may in fact be the fuse. In the trunk, when you lift/pull out the floor to reveal the fuse box, there should be a diagram in there showing all the fuses in your car. I believe the fuses for those ports are in the front, under the hood.

Doubt it is a fuse as it plugs direct into the head unit.
Sounds like it isn't connected into the headunit or the connection is damaged. You should only have one USB port and if it is in the glove compartment then they have moved it. Another possibility is that previous owner retrofitted pro nav and then forgot to change the usb back in the armrest. Pronav retrofit requires you turn the usb connection 180 degrees in the arm rest (you pop out the usb and aux then disconnect the cable underneath) |

The usb is in the center armrest, I don't have one in the glove compartment
The aux works, and USB option is showing up in the headunit, but it's greyed out and says "not connected", no matter what device i try. 1) i need the bmw y-cable, but it's 2015 MY, so this shouldn't be the case 2) usb needs to be activated?? but it seems like i have all the enhanced bluetooth capabilities, so this is unlikely as well 3) fuse, but usb option shows up and aux is working 4) defective port I'm going to try 1,3,4 and see what happens, could it be anythign else? If it's a coding thing, what can i do |

Assuming all your devices are compatible the below is your process: 1. Possible that previous owner has removed a pro nav unit NBT and put back the original head unit HU Entry when selling the car. When installing NBT the cable connector into the usb outlet has to be spun 180 degrees for some reason. You can spot this as you have to shave off parts of the connector to make it fit and sometimes tape it on. If they forgot to do this then your usb won't work. You need to pop out the usb / aux in the centre console and check to see if the usb cable has been spun round or is loose here. 2. Pop out the hu and check if it is loose here. 3. Buy a new usb cable with outlet and check if the old one is damaged. |

Curious as well. My Bluetooth just sits on the screen that says please wait while loading and my middle console USB stopped working at the same time. Been about a year.

If you have a camera which can take even half decent macro pictures try to take one from the inside of the usb port. Would not be the first BMW usb port with bent pins.
