Can anyone tell me what this noise is?

Have a faint screeching/whining noise that I think is coming from the rear of the car. I made an appointment to bring it in to the dealer but didn't want to waste my time if it wasn't something serious.

The sound starts at around 25mph and doesn't go away from stepping on the brakes or going into neutral. Is this looking like the rear diff?

Any help is appreciated.

If the sound does not change much whether you accelerate, coast or decelarate then I would suspect wheel bearing more than differential.

Year, model, mileage would help.

So I did some testing last night driving by an alley wall to see if it was the wheel bearings, and it did not appear to be coming from the wheels.

Anyone else have any ideas?
