I have Comcast Xfinity for both cable & internet.

Thinking about it. Comcast keeps jacking up my bill and/or screwing it up every damn month. Getting tired of this shit.
I pay about $135 per mo w/Comcast for Internet & TV.

Don't chime in with Netflix & such.

i switched from comcast to Verizon with fiber optic. same shit pretty much except this fiber optic is super quick internet. change around to get the best deal each couple years...

They kept jacking up your bill every month too?! Did you sign up for the contract? If so, they did that during the contract period? What did they want to charge you per month after that contract ended?

I don't remember i'm not good at doing my own bills but it was like $30 more at least after contract expired. they wouldn't reduce, only offer me more shit channels i don't want...so i left.

Cost isn't the primary driver for me. I choose FiOS because it is the best service available where I live.

Verizon advertises waived setup fee on the site. I called to sign up & they say oh that's if you or that home had Fios before blah blah. So bait & switch! GFY. Looks like I'm staying with Comcast. I'm not paying you $90 extra for doing your job.

Be thankful you have a choice. At my primary residence, the only real high speed broadband I have access to is Comcast. Overall the service has been pretty good but the stupidity about having asynchronous speeds is just beyond me. Verizon only offers DSL in this area because they entered into an anti consumer deal with the cable companies about getting cellular RF space in exchange for not entering into new market areas with FIOS where they don't already have a presence.

At my vacation place, it's even worse. I have to deal with Mediacrap...I mean Mediacom. Those bastards are blatantly traffic shaping my usage as when I stream anything, the video gets throttled to a crawl. But they're the only game in town as Verizon doesn't even offer DSL...only POTS service. The only other real options are cellular Internet and satellite.

Comcast I'm paying about $86 a month for 150/10 service. Mediacrap I'm paying about $50 for 20/2 service. I also looked into getting business class service with Comcast and got sticker shock. I'll pay if the service seems reasonable for the cost. But at $140 a month for 50/10 service just so I can get more than one public IP is way too much. I checked on what the next tier speed would cost and at 100/20, it comes out at $180 a month.

Comcast is our only option, but if FiOS were available where I live I would jump in a heartbeat.

We did dump satellite TV and phone service, so we just have internet now. 200mbs for $85/month iirc.

Switched from time warner and never looked back. The 75 mg d/l always shows higher speeds around 80-90 mgs. Can't complain.

I have had the following service providers and here are my experiences-

Brighthouse Networks - good service, good support, really expensive and its a small company

Verizon FIOS - pretty shitty service considering it was in a very central area, you tube almost didn't play, solid harware

COX - the best of the best, solid service, hardware and support, somewhat expensive

Comcast - trash support, scammers in terms of pricing but FWIW, good service

Hotwire - decent support, trash service... literally the worst service I think could physically be imaginable... you haven't seen bad internet until you experience hotwire (albeit its free as part of my bldg so whatever)


The best story I have with comcast is when the mofos sent me the wrong cable box, the tv service didn't work, then sent some ass out to fix it and charged me $40 for an in call... then I spoke with 4 managers to finally get this credited, haha go fuck yourself Comcast

I find Comcast to be great until you have an issue. Their support is horrible. Usually the way it goes is I move in have all kinds of issues when I initially get the service, they send out a bunch of morons to look at it and after weeks of getting no where they finally send a competent tech who fixes the issue and then it works flawlessly for years. I have the $50 internet service and it works perfectly for everything I need. We stream Netflix and what not all the time and never have any issues.

I had Comcast when I was in Woodstock, IL and it wasn't bad. Tech came out once to "activate" the line. Internet and tv combo saves some money, but they are still expensive imo. Like others have said, service is good, with minimal downtime, but tech support is like pulling teeth. Being a network guy, I could tell them their DNS wasn't working properly and they had no idea what DNS even was. Guess that's what you get (incompetent technicians) when you don't want to pay more than $12/hour.

I had AT&T uverse fiber once and it was way better than comcast for TV and internet.

If you are into gaming it's a no brainer, fiber will reduce latency greatly.

Don't forget that Verizon also provides much higher, if not equal upload speeds as their download speeds. I think it's ridiculous that I can download at 250mbps, but only upload at 10mbps through xfinity. I have started using a personal vpn for additional privacy through public hotspots, so routing back through my house is a pretty bad bottleneck. I am also hosting my nas with music and photos so could really use more upload speed.

I was happy with Verizon, for the most part, when I was able to have them. I only use internet now along with PS Vue, Netflix and Amazon prime. It's enough for me. I'm more of a news and movie watcher. I casually watch a few TV sitcoms, but have started enjoying Netflix content better, like Longmire, Bloodlines etc. I apologize for the Netflix references.

This is a misconception. You're just buying into marketing hype. Just because you're running fiber doesn't mean you have reduced latency. There are a myriad of factors which go into latency of a network path point to point. The use of fiber however allows the provider greater flexibility to support future faster speeds and to do things like multiplexing multiple network connections over a single fiber (CWDM and DWDM). Fiber also allows providers to run longer distances between points compared to copper cabling.
