FOOTWELL lights

Has anyone replaced their footwell lights? Even with lighting settings set to brightest, i wish mine were a bit brighter. Not sure if it''ll throw code, or how easy it is, so checking here first. Can't imagine it's too hard, but code stuff not sure about.

I don't think the footwell lamp is monitored or will throw a code. Pull it out and disconnect it. See what happens.

I believe its an LED lamp so may be a project to increase illumination.

if i do get a code, then plug it back to stock, will the code clear itself or do i need it to get 'professionally' cleared by dealer?

For something like a lamp, it should clear after a couple starts of the car where it observes no further failure. Will stay in history unless dealer clears history.

Foot wells

Ok....so I kinda didn't want to post this for the Simple fact that it was a mission to get done and hard to do a DIY. So I had the same thinking that the footwells weren't bright enuf. I took out n removed the housing and the 3led mother board. Spliced into the wire for the welcome lights and sport setting , and then wired in L.E.D bulbs to them, drilled 2holes to the back of the housing, put the bulbs thru the holes and ........ Wollalla....I do not have footwell lighting on the classic (orange) setting, cus I don't like orange...but when the LEDs are on IMO, LOOKS HOTTT!!

Did this with all the lights only one I'm having trouble with are the dome lights...I cant get the housings off....and it's very frustrating!!

sweet.., well, i guess for me not so sweet as i've never done any wire splicing type stuff. So I"m guessing it's not plug n play and just a board of lights?

Unfortunately it is not plug n play...but it sounds harder that it really is
What we did was from my 07e90' took all my LED bulbs , either broke glass hosing or pulled the led out with the connectors in tact, and just wired thm into te correct wire.

hmm, well kudos to you for doing it...where are the OEM footwells mounted, or what are they mounted to? Is it just a strip of explosed lights, with wires, or are they on some sort of enclosed casing? If i just got another strip of LEDS can I just splice in?

Check it with your DMM. If you don't have one you shouldn't be messing with wiring.

the footwell lights are in a plastic enclosed casing with an LED board in it. they're held in with a screw beneath the glove box area on both sides of the car. it's a beige rectangular plastic piece. benzinfabrik.com offers replacement ambient lighting modules/boards for the f30/f32 and they're much brighter than OEM and they offer OEM colors and other colors. i replaced mine with blue/white so i can have blue ambient lighting it looks great.
