She has 3 bikes but have 6 at the moment A couple of years ago i had a few powermeters (a std 53/39 SRM, a power tap hub on a carbon road wheel and a track Powertap) - before we went to the alps on holiday i bought a compact Power2Max power meter for going to the mountains & thought i got away with it, but she spotted it on my bike on the roof of the car cue some quick talking...”oh, that.... had it for ages......don’t you remember i told you about it” etc...... |

My new replacement Ultegra chain that is waiting to be fitted (still a bit of life in the current 105 chain) and that has a quick link. Sometimes you just want to easily take the chain off and refit it without the hassle of removing a pin. I'll often remove the chain after a wet or dirty ride and leave it to soak in a bottle of degreaser overnight. Much easier with a quick link.

I tend to use KMC or SRAM chains rather than shimano - It looks like shimano started quick links in 2019 ( i didn’t know that)
https://cyclingtips.com/2019/01/chai...sy-connection/ That said, it appears the shimano QL are reportedly single use still - there is some interesting chat in the link above re. Single use and re-usable quick links - every day is a school day |

First short-sleeve ride of the year today... glorious sunshine, perfect temperature, still a bloody headwind on most of it, and a pretty strong one compared to what I was expecting.
Did hit 40+ mph though... terrifying... that kinda speed should be reserved for things with 4 wheels or when you're wearing leathers.

Did my first 100k today, on this thing. There is absolutely nothing about this bike that is meant for doing anything more than a trip to the shops and back. Terrible idea.
Very much looking forward to a new bike in a few weeks! |

Hope everyone has been out today, I took a 10 mile detour on the way home, felt like I absolutely smashed some local segments......than I realised I forgot to open the Strava app on the phone.

Anything that doesn't weigh 15kg and spin out at 40km/h will be a bonus though... |

But I did do 42 miles yesterday and planning on 50+ tomorrow... maybe even a 100k depending on how the legs are feeling. I'd be annoyed if that happened to me... I ride for myself but the kudos and achievements and trophies and PBs on Strava does help the motivation a little bit.

Got prepared went out, cycled up the road and thought 'its flipping hot, I've over dressed'. Popped back changed from a fleece lined jersey to a base layer with a short sleeved jersey which was spot on. 30 miles, 2000 feet and my hill from hell later I reached in and they weren't there... In all seriousness I binned gels a long time ago but this was a basic error that involved me rocking up at home looking more than my usual sack of shit..and feeling it. |

Although in your defence there was ice on the car windscreen at 6am today, yet it hit 22C as well. I run pretty hot anyway, so I was more than comfortable in thin summer kit yesterday, and that was a good 8 degrees colder. Hate running out of gels/sweets/snacks but to find out you haven't got any, that's a kicker, mentally and physically.

You had 20 degrees? Lucky you! I looked out my window all day and it was reasonable. Not amazing, but reasonable enough for a decent evening ride. Finish early, put stuff in the car, and between then and actually leaving the heavens opened. I haven't been that wet or cold in a long, long time. It beat sitting in watching TV but still. I suppose that'll teach me for going out for working on the car last night when it was decent weather, even if I did get a quick run in as the sun was setting. Honestly, we did one descent and then spent the rest of the ride suffering into a disgusting hoodie and a headwind (when is it ever not?). To cap it all off it seems to vigilante has become annoyed with our local 'lockdown' trails and seen fit to cut a load of what were live trees down to block them. You can't fix that level of stupidity

For some of us who commute to work, the cold start is lovely. It means you can put half a decent amount of effort in without sweating like a pig/needing a shower at work.
Yesterday really was perfect weather, I left for work early to get a longer ride in. Shame I was on my eBike but legs were shot from my smashing it effort the other day. WFH today AM, than child care duties PM.....going to get with draw symptoms from not been on the bike . |

There's great quiet roads everywhere once you get out of the towns and cities.
I'm surprised how few cars I see on a 3-4 hour ride. I was new to the area 5 years ago so learnt the good routes with the local cycling club (social not competitive riding) and following them on Strava and borrowing parts of their routes. Now I can just head out and string together more than enough combinations of sections of roads without needing gps guidance.
