Best 328i performance upgrade

Hi all
Love the 328i but I think I've got too used to the standard power and would like an upgrade.

Any suggestions on tuning boxes as the car is still in warranty so no remap possible.

Was thinking to go down the ac schnitzer route but ~2k for a tuning box seems a bit much. Also looked at the steinbauer box but not 100% sure.

Would be nice to hear for some one with a tuning box on a n20 engine and their recommendations.

Ps. I don't want a 340i due to my commute and I don't like diesel cars so no 335d.

Inner city commute = no 340i
I'm not paying for a bigger engine just to sit in traffic.
My 328i is the sweet spot for my needs but as with any car after 2 years you are immune to the power which lead to my post.
Cheers though

Havent ran it on my BM yet as I ony picked it up last week but I did have a DTUK box on my Seat Cupra and found it excellent. It transfers to the BM just needs a software flash and a new wiring loom. Just about turns the 330i into a 335. Personally I think maps are better but like you I'd be uncomfortabe mapping a warranted car. There will no doubt be plenty of haters telling you a box is a waste of time, personally I think theres a place for both.

While possibly a bit over the top for what you're after here is an interesting possibility.

It is quite expensive though.

Remap?

My bad excuse the 320i figures

Might be worth contacting pro turbos.

Yep read a few horror stories on the main forum which is why I was hoping there was someone on here that had used a tuning box for a period of time with no adverse effects on the car.

Interesting let me know how you get on when you get the box installed. How's the 330i? Different engine but only a 7hp increase between the b48 and n20.

Haven't personally read anything bad about ecu flashes to your model. But, that's expensive as fook. Still an option if you wanna go that route.

Im getting used to it, the Seat was a monster and a really fun car to drive. The 330 is slower, softer and more of a cruiser. Power delivery is very linear, however at a smack off 50 I need to be chilling a little so it fits better. I do think the extra torque from the box will make it a bit more interesting. I'll let you know how it pans out. If the 328 is NA (not up to date on my BM's) then I doubt the gains will be that good.

M6 gran coupe or an Alpina B3s would be what I would actually want .
Unfortunately same as the 340i not practical.

Not everyone can afford to drive an M5 daily or otherwise though unfortunately

A remapped 328i is good bang per buck .. pretty much on par with a standard 335i performance wise up to 80mph for the price of a few hundred pounds remap, with better mpg and cheaper road tax thrown in. I see nothing wrong with that option if the op is on more of a budget than some other members of the forum.

I've had a dtuk box on my 340 for almost a year and had no issues apart from my grin being permanently in place.

The stories I've read relate to crank thrust bearings which isn't a tuning issue, but even so you wouldn't want BMW wriggling out of a serious warranty claim just because you have some kind of upgrade fitted.

Our upgrade is over £2600 now but is the only one with a proper engine warranty included. Obviously the age of your car is a factor as our warranty runs alongside the BMW warranty, so if you buy when your car is 2 years old you only get a 1 year engine warranty instead of 3, but there isn't much we can do about that.

On our 28i Z4 demonstrator the upgrade worked very well, pulling hard all through the rev range, and our 328i in Germany came top of a review of 6 tuners in AutoBild magazine (and made a bit more than quoted at 315hp):

http://www.ac-schnitzer.de/fileadmin...t_englisch.pdf

The AC Schnitzer box in this case is not Steinbauer based. Give me a call if you'd like to chat about the pros and cons of this vs. other tuning methods.

Reviving this I'm thinking about a Jb4

Which at this price point seems ok. Anyone on here have any experience of this tuning box?
Cheers.

Unscrew the front two bolts of the seat slightly. That way when you accelerate you get that torque throwing you back in your seat feeling.
