Alloy wheel corrosion
Car is 16 months old (17k miles) and three of my 403M alloys are corroding around the center caps.
I've seen posts on here before with people getting them changed - should I expect any resistance from BMW or is this just a simple warranty claim?

Should be a simple warranty claim. I had mine replaced just over 20k as second owner - warranty manager at dealer took pics and sent them off, BMW approved within a few days. Wheels took couple of weeks to get to dealer who took tyres off existing rims and fitted to new rims

in anticipation of the corrosion I've taken all my centre caps off and applied loads of car wax to the wheels where they fit in in the hope of keeping water out. Bet it makes naff all difference.

I advised my dealer when booking car in for a service. 3 rims were replaced without question. They said the 4th wheel shows no signs so can't be returned at this time.
I took the wheels off and put some copper grease on the hub spline and on the back of the alloy where it touches the hub - hopefully that will offer some protection from corrosion. |

Had all 4 of mine replaced a few months back, no issues at all.
Tyres swapped over and not a mark on the wheels.

Happened on my E92 aswell common BMW problem - wheels changed under warranty no problem, so far on the F30 all ok.

All sorted - three wheels being replaced at the first service in a couple of weeks time. Dealer agreed straightaway that it should be a warranty replacement.

How much corrosion.. 3 of the wheels around the centre cap have a few corrosion about half pea size.. Doted around... Problem is that the manufacturer warranty runs out end of the month... The car was purchased 2 months ago.. So got Approved used warranty but reading the T&C it doesn't cover it. So small but can been seen close up, do you think they will change it... Or someway to accelerate the corrosion 😈

Have they actually solved this on later cars/wheels by protecting better? (I know diamond turned wheels are more prone to this but many seem to last better than this)
I guess no one has had their replacement set long enough to find out. |

I wonder if I could claim on warranty for mine. I have the matt black 624m wheels and I noticed on one of them a small silver mark, so i scraped it with my fingernail and the paint just start to flake off.
I could problem scrape the paint off the whole wheel with my finger. sure that is not a good enough finish to a wheel with a list price of approx 3k per set. Any thoughts? The wheel has not been kerbed at all. |

FYI...I got all four of mine (403M's) replaced at 7000 miles, then both rears replaced (again) at around 16000 miles, so they have not fixed the problem. I will be scutinising mine every week I wash the car particularly as I approach the 3yr warranty next May! |
