That's stunning, my "issue" (totally subjective I know!) with orange/red coloured cars is that the tail lights blend into the back, but not quite enough - M performance black line tail lights would be lovely on your car.

I agree that tail lights tend to blend on Orange/Red cars. Call me weird; but, I think the M-Perf Tail Lights kinda look like the cheesy FnF Altezza tail light swap that everyone did on their Civic's in the early 2000's.. IMHO, I think they kinda cheapen the look of the car. That's why decided to swap to USDM spec LCI (red blink) OEM lights instead.

Anyways, in preparation for my LCI tail light swap, I decided to pickup the EU light switch with front and rear fog switches enabled and code it. Sure, I could've filled down the button to activate the switch. But, I wouldn't have had the backlit button which would've bugged me to no end.. Especially if the switch is active. Being as though I'm not using the front fog lights yet, I removed the blanking button from the factory switch to stop the button from moving.

Coding I used was:
FEM => 3060 => NSL_VERBAUT => VERBAUT
default was nicht_verbaut
activated the indication in the instrument cluster.
FEM => 3064 => LCE_BEL_LIN_VAR => BEL_FLC_NSW_NSL
Default was BEL_FLC for adaptive Xenons with no fogs on my F30 MPE.
As indicated on the forums when I coded to BEL_FLC_NSL it set a shadow code in BimmerLink for wrong switch installed.
REM => 3063 => MAPPING_NEBELSCHLUSSL_L_OUTPUT => NSL_L
default was OFF
REM => 3063 => MAPPING_NEBELSCHLUSSL_R_OUTPUT => NSL_R
default was OFF
Being as though the pre-LCI rear fogs have Halogen bulbs, I left the following codes in their default setting.
REM => 3063 => MAPPING_NEBELSCHLUSSL_L_FIXED_PWM => PWM
REM => 3063 => MAPPING_NEBELSCHLUSSL_L_FUNCTION => NEBELSCHULSSLIGHT
REM => 3063 => MAPPING_NEBELSCHLUSSL_R_FIXED_PWM => PWM
REM => 3063 => MAPPING_NEBELSCHLUSSL_R_FUNCTION => NEBELSCHULSSLIGHT

Another day, another mod.

Today's activity, mounting a set of Amazon M-Perf style pedal covers to match the factory dead pedal. For safety sake, instead of just using the slip on method to attach the covers; I chose to attach them like the OEM pedal set instructions recommend by actually drilling and bolting them into position. The covers came with nuts cast into the rubber, so I had to remove those before mounting.

Then I went downtown to source six stainless M4x0.7x15 flat head machine screws and some nylon insert nuts.

For the brake pedal, I drilled all 3 holes using a #19 (4.22mm) drill bit so I had the proper sized clearance hole for M4 hardware. Then, slid the machine screw through, and attached using the nylon insert nuts.

For the throttle pedal, I drilled all 3 holes using a #30 (3.26mm) drill bit so I could tap the holes with a M4 thread. Reason I did this is because there's no real clearance available behind the pedal hinge, so using a nut was out of the cards.

Overall I think it turned out ok; especially for the price they were compared to BMW's part. At the end of the day, they are only pedal covers after all.

Next two larger interior upgrades/updates came in the form of a F80 center console knee-pad and a F80 sliding center console lid. I was very excited to install both, and boy does it ever spruce up the interior and make the car so much nicer to drive longer distances. Being shorter (5'6") my right elbow always floated in never never land when I had cruise control set, so I'd always have to torque my body to rest my right arm. Now, that's no longer an issue. Plus the knee pad sits in the perfect spot when you've got cruise control set and you're resting your knee against the console. No more hard plastic against you knee cap.

Very nice car! I also own, since new, M Performance Edition but it's 2018 440i. In terms of the M3/M4 knee pad that you installed, did you buy it through the dealer or is it used?

Thanks Aleki75, I bought it used off of eBay. It came out of Oceanside, CA from a vendor called straightsixautoparts.

Quite the story of mods you got there. Car looks awesome.

Perhaps I'll see you cruising around Vancouver someday...I'll look out for your plates.

Thank for your service.

Friday, time for documenting another mod. This time it's the illuminated LCI HVAC trim panel (64119358940) update.

I built a harness using aftermarket TE Connectivity MQS connectors and pins. Parts list I used:
  • 2x TE Connectivity AMP uncoded pin housing 3 POL p/n 1-968700-1 (61136931929)
  • 2x TE Connectivity AMP socket housing uncoded 3 POL p/n 1-1718346-1 (61138377072)
  • 3x TE MQS Connection Socket 0,2- 0,35MM² [20- 24awg] p/n 5-928999-1 (61138369696)
  • 3x TE MQS Pin Contact 0,2- 0,35MM² [20- 24awg] p/n 1-928918-1 (61131383672)
  • 3x TE MQS Pin Contact 0,5-0,75 MM² [18- 20awg] p/n 5-963716-1 (61131393723)
  • 10cm of Brown 24awg wire
  • 10cm of Red 24awg wire
  • 10cm of Blue 24awg wire
  • 20cm of Tesa Velour 19mm X 15m wire wrap (61132359177) <-- ridiculously expensive stuff

The harness was built to look similar to this:

Something to note, I de-pinned the supplied connector that comes on the illuminated panel, and replaced it with an extra 1-1718346-1 housing I had. Simple operation because both connectors use the same pins.

Also, because I HATE shinny Piano black, I scuffed the panel with some wet 1500 grit paper, then re-sprayed the bare panel with a couple coats of Mr. Super Smooth Clear ( B530 Matt ) UV stable lacquer hobby paint.

I think it turned out really well. It's very hard to tell the difference between the sheen or color of the factory pre-LCI and the replacement LCI panel.

very clean work on this. the shiny black trim is the main reason i haven't gone for the lighting upgrade. looks great!

Thanks aps, I appreciate the response. Although ,there’ll be one more update to the trim install in a near future. I find the light emitted from the panel is a little too intense because the dash isn’t diffusing the light as much as the door panels are. I’ve got an idea of how to rectify/tune the system, because as it stands right now; the light hurts my eyes at night.

Anyways, this is the real reason why I’m posting today. To share how I completed my LCI tail light swap, what parts I used, and what coding I programmed into the car to work error free. All parts are OEM, and being as though I used the BMW LCI retrofit harness meant I didn’t have to splice anything. This means the mod is 100% reversible if I choose to remove it at a later date.

Parts I used:
Left Outter light (p/n 63217369115)
Right outer light (p/n 63217369116)
Left inner light (p/n 63217369121)
Right inner light (p/n 63217369122)
Left drip rail (p/n 51497453333)
Right drip rail (p/n 51497453334)
LCI retrofit harness (p/n 61122410220)
Instructions I used:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=50

Coding:
This is what took the most time to research. I’m not a fan of blindly coding my car to a posted online list because sometimes, the person creating that list has a different spec car than mine, or they wanted extra things coded.. Whereas I wanted to code the car exactly how BMW did. So off to the dealer I went to sit in a recently traded in 2018 F30 and spend a couple hours going through codes to cross-reference online lists. Then I had to cross-reference how my car was coded to expedite the actual coding session to mitigate errors.

Coding wizards might notice that not every Warm or Cold check was needing to be turned off. Plus, despite every post, I never made any changes to the RFS (back-up light) because it wasn't changed to LED. Lastly, the headlights were turned on while I was taking the photos; so, no I didn't enable rear daytime running lights.

Funny how different we are. I defenetly think the shiny black trim looks better and is one of the reasons i did it. But then i also have the gloss black doortrims and other bits wich makes it fit in better.

My car came with Piano black as well, but I removed those pieces to do the Alcantara work. I'm sure if I would've kept the original trim, I also would've kept the the trim untouched as well. So I think we're more similar than you think.

Haha thanks. I've got a few Nikons and lenses for different shooting situations whether I need high speed, low light, long range, dry/wet weather, etc. That being said, these shots were taken with a D750 and a Nikkor 85 1.8G.

what a quality build with great parts! Very tastefully done! How has the dinan springs held up on the stock suspension?

No issues after 5 years service.. even the coating on the springs hasn't faltered. That being said; Vancouver Island isn't known for drastic weather patterns or salted roads.. just lots of rain.. lots and lots of rain.

I am kinda contemplating about doing street oriented coilovers (Ohlins or Bilstein EDC) though.. just because I think ride height adjustability would be nice to have. But, I don't want to sacrifice ride quality due to the upgrade.

yeah I get that for sure! This is a big reason I am considering these springs, daily drive-ability plus the aesthetic that comes with lowering.

Because I hate when there's no closure to threads, here's my final goodbye to Creamsicle.

You were a great car, and you never let me down. I thoroughly enjoyed owning you for the past 5 years; but, it's time to move on..

So everyone meet Johnny. He's my newest little blue rocket ship. Let's see what kind of trouble I can get into with you.

Thanks. I'm sure the car will re-appear.. maybe even on here. It's sitting on a dealers lot a couple hours north.
