I was in a similar situation to you about a year ago. I was ready to replace my amp on my 2014 435ix w std hifi. Received advice from a highly regarded audio retail specialist. They told me you would be appalled if you saw the speaker quality BMW uses in my car. They do all sorts of installs from crazy to Bavsound etc... They told me with out a doubt replace the speakers and gohst subs first and you will hear a huge difference. They said stock Bimmer speakers are paper junk. They where correct. They saved the stock speakers for me and they are a joke. Im not an audio nut but do enjoy good sound with nice highs, mids and tight noticeable bass. I have thought about replacing my amp but never pulled the trigger as the new Bavsound speakers and Gohst subs with the stock amp sound terrific. Huge mega difference from stock. Hope this helps.
Sorry for the late response, but thank you for that. I’m glad you got an upgrade. Many people have told me to get the amp first, but tbh I’d rather change the speakers and subs first before getting an amp because that upgrade alone could give me the boost and clarity I really need. Did you get Bavsound? I was looking at them, but I’ve started to consider Bimmertech due to the price. I can get the driver’s choice that includes all the front speakers and subs for $953 instead of over $1000 like Bavsound. I knew the stock speakers in the BMW are pure garbage that’s why I’m definitely going to replace them.

And you knew that how? I guess I have to repeat myself:

I haven't swapped my stock drivers out because no evidence provided by the makers of replacement drivers proves that they're any better, or even as good as, the OEM. I have thoroughly tested my stock hi-fi drivers and confirmed that they are very high quality. I was able to do so because as a professional loudspeaker designer I have the necessary tools and experience. And that's why I can say with full confidence that anyone who says the stock drivers are crap either doesn't have the credentials to make that assessment or they have an ulterior motive, which is to make a sale.

I recommend the Earthquake under seat woofers, as the data proves that they're an improvement. If I was to see data that proves the worth of other replacement drivers I'd recommend them as well. It just isn't there.

DBrab: take Bill's advice, he is an audio pro/designs speakers.
Swap in a good DSP amp w/your stock speakers- you will be pleased. Did exactly this in my X3, the amp really transformed my stock hi-fi system- I was more than a bit amazed, and quite pleased.

DBrab: check ebay or the classifieds here. The Match amp comes up for sale from time to time when people trade in their cars. The Bavsound Revenant probably not since it just released in February.

Hey Bill,
Thanks for your contribution to the conversation. Do you have any information on the Earthquake subs? Price? Retail Sources? How are they at lower volumes compared to HK subs?

The only opinion that I heard was from a retailer who sells and installs both Bav & Bimmer products. His opinion was that there is an improvement with both of their subs at higher volumes. He thought that my HK subs actually sounded better at lower volumes. (2015 335i with full HK system)

I don't have the budget to replace all 14 speakers so I asked him about just replacing the front speakers. He actually said that he had replaced the center speakers on the top of the dash first on one car. He thought that replacing those (if I remember correctly there are two located in the center) was more improvement to the sound than when he replaced the front left and right speakers. Just one guy's opinion but that's all that I got. Any thoughts?

Go back a page and you'll see the SPL chart I posted that compares the Earthquake with the OEM hi-fi woofers. As for sound quality, there are only two factors that apply to the frequency bandwidth where they operate, the low frequency extension and maximum output. That's seen on the chart.
I never rely on opinions where sound is concerned, not even my own. There is one and only one way to make valid comparisons when there is no measured data to confirm them. You need two cars identical in every way other than the particular item being tested, side by side, so you can go from one to the other with no time lag. That's not practical of course, but that's where the data comes in, if there is any. IMO no data, no sale. How many guys would pay $500 for a JB4 without seeing dyno results?

Hi, sorry for this late post revive.
I have a stupid question. Will the Bimmertech Afla one speakers work good on a non BMW car ? Bimmertech said "no" but I can't figure out why not.
I'm selling my BMW soon and want to take the speakers to my next car.
