Questions About n55 Tuning

before you guys bash me hear me out. the 6 series forum may not be very informative on this subject

i figured no wher else would be better to ask the the f30 guys right?

Purchased this car back in the first of OCT. and i must say i love it. 2016 640i coupe M-sport

not my first time owning a BMW but my first newly bought BMW. used to e28s, and e34 before this one

i have done alot of searching and have really a few questions that is left unanswered

Ability of Tuning:

i may not tune the n55 engine. as i have a turboed e34 (m30). but lets say if i wanted to. is it possible to have some one tune the car only in sport mode or sport mode plus and the factory tune on comfort and eco pro mode? being able to switch the tune on and off would be great and the only way i would do a tune. my n54 friends tell me jb4 will risk frying my ecu and that i dont want to happen.

i love the exhaust note on sport mode in these things with the sport exhaust. wonder what the m performance one would sound like. may do the catless downpipe mod once i find a better cel fix out there.

thanks in advanced for your input and help

Short answer is no!

Others have asked the same thing about having different preset tunes for eco/comfort/sport/sport+

Weird... didn't realize the 640 had N55, same as 335...
Most of the people here will tell you to get bootmod3 and flash tune it. There's no way (with that tune) to have a different sport vs. comfort vs. eco tune loaded. The eco still operates as eco, and comfort / sport will operate the same as before, just turned up a notch. I haven't heard of anyone frying their ECU with jb4, but most people switch from jb4 to bootmod3 eventually unless they're running custom tunes and using jb4 as a meth controller. bootmod3 will solve your CEL problem with catless downpipe, but it won't solve emissions testing because it just tricks the car into not presenting the CEL so the OBD reader at an emissions testing place will read as "not ready" and you'll fail (depending on state, blah blah blah).
Hope that helps!

yea the 640 received the b58 in 2017. should i have gotten the b58? i dunno. i feel like the n55 would be a better engine to do maintenance in the future.

i will be keeping this car for years,

but this is nice to know. yea in Md the "not ready" wont fail the car. and i just took emissions testing last week so i have 2 years until the next reading.

the ecu frying was mostly happening to the e9x and 1 series cars from a while back. these testimonials are from my friends friends etc so i really dont know them but 2 of them told dont do it lol.

well this sums up my question. if the eco pro still cuts boost and throttle response i would be happy with that.

thanks guys!

You'll notice no driveability issues with a tuned car in eco and comfort modes with a flash. boost kicks in the same way etc. shifting is the same.. it will feel the same except at full throttle etc.

Bm3 and forget it.

Thanks Phantom!

then looks like a tune will be part of the mods list.

looks like bm3, charpepipes, G Plus intercooler. and bms intake (i already have the intake)

the downpipe i will do to get a better growl in sport mode. and revert to the E34 for high boost fun.

downpipe will give a small exhaust note change on a stock sport exhaust right?

yeah, should sound pretty good. Its not crazy loud or anything tbh, even catless. However its sounds much better and of course is louder.

I have a 2015 Bmw 435i and recently tuned it a month ago with bootmod multimap stage 1 on the maps it's states

Map 1: ACN91 octane
Map 2: 91 octane
Map 3: 93 octane
Map 4: M2 N55 stock power level

Im currently running map 2: as there isn't
93 octane where I'm from but I was wondering if I could run map 4 with 91 octane fuel or would I need 93 octane?

You can run map 4 with 91.. however..

Where are you located?
I'm willing to bet you need map 1.
If west coast (Cali, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, canada, etc) you NEED map 1 (acn means Arizona, Cali, Nevada etc).

If you're in that area, your fuel is garbage and your 91 is basically 89 octane everywhere else.

In that case you should be able to run map 3.. but you need to log it.. even with the other maps you should log to verify.

Fyi, stage 1 93 makes more power than the m2 map, I believe the 91 map does as well.

It’s the other way around - the M2 map makes more power than the stage 1 maps, but slightly less torque.

Mhmm.. all we are seeing is a slight blip in the maps where the peak hp is better. Also on old maps that have been updated since then.

I even showed a slight improvement in 1/4mile times when I compared them. It was pretty minor though.
The stage 1 map is better.
