2015 435 - Castrol Edge 0w-40 vs Motomaster OE Plus

Going to change my oil before storing my car for winter. I only put 2500 km on it this summer.

About 2100 of those kilometres were with a BM3 stage 1 91 tune.

I've been doing a lot of research on oils and decided to go with Castrol Edge 0w-40. Canadian Tire only had 1 L jugs going for $13.99 each. So 7 jugs was $110.

However the guy showed me Motomaster OEPlus 0w-40 on sale for $27.50/5L. So I got two of those also.

Both oils have same requirements/approvals for MB and VW, except the Motomaster doesn't have the Ford or Porsche A40 cert. Which brand should I return to the store?

I prefer Castrol. If you will change this oil out after winter or under 5000 miles, you could use Motomaster and look for some cheaper sources for Castrol 0w-40 Euro which for 1L bottles is expensive. Look for gallon jugs.

That's not a bad idea, thanks. But honestly the money isn't an issue. I'd rather just put the Castrol in right now and be good to go after storage without doing another oil change.

Still $100 cheaper than the dealership.

Or just keep both if you got a good price for either. I mean, it's not like you'll never change the oil again right?

Motomaster is a CT house brand. Obviously CT doesn't own a refinery. They get their oil from various sources, including Shell and Exxon. With a bit of effort one can find out where any of their oils from.

If its rated for BMW, has the proper detergents, and it is synthetic, there should be minor difference between oils up to 4-5000 miles. I would use the Motomaster for a winter oil and if you are curious about continuing with Motomaster, you could send a sample of it into Blackstone for analysis. I have gotten good analysis results from Castrol 0w-40 so I stay with it and it is cheap at Walmart.

So I went with the Castrol Edge yesterday.

I still want to drive my car for a little bit longer before putting it away for storage (about 70km/40mi total)

This should be fine right?

Theres no problem with fresh oil just make sure you drive it long enough to burn off any moisture. There would have been not a problem with the Motomaster as a winter storage oil either.
