I see the colored lines reflecting traffic conditions and they are accurate most of the time, but when plotting a destination it takes me right through the problem area anyway. When my free subscription ends, I have no intentions of renewing. |

I get to work early in the morning when the traffic is light and no real need to reroute, and since I carpool, I only drive to work once or twice a week. So, I'll play with it over the next few days/weeks and report back if re-routing works.

My commute is changing soon and I am going to need RTTI to adjust routes. I do not have ARTTI service activated but went out and put in an address to see what would show up and I have destination info on the inset at the bottom of the NAV screen with a car icon and a TI next to it? Is that RTTI? or just the FM info.

The 'over the air' traffic information is called TMC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_message_channel)... its the same thing you'll see on Garmins etc. with free traffic. Has to be coded as per the messages in this thread. The computer, at least in the USA, is not programmed to 'fail over' to TMC if your traffic subscription ends. Also I would imagine if you re-subscribed after coding, you will have to undo it.
From my experience it's not as good as the real time traffic, but its acceptable (7 or 8/10). Takes a few min to update when you start the car. Sometimes noticed if you zoom out a lot and back in, it will 'lose' the traffic information. Dynamic routing etc. still works as well. |

Newer model BMWs can update the Maps automatically over the air (If you have the options). My 2014 428i is not capable of this so I have to buy the update and install via USB port. Cost was $50 US and brought it up to 2019 - 2 map version.

Can someone please verify that if you have RTTI working in your vehicle that you see TI or RTTI on the lower inset (when destination is input into NAV). I really need to find out what it says when you have paid for ARTTI. Thanks for any feed back.

If you pay for it, it should say RTTI (at least that's what mine did when my subscription was active).

Yes as far as I know, you need to put in a destination to see the lower inset box showing the time to destination, the car icon and the letters TI or RTTI. Thanks for the input and look forward to what you see when picking up the Kiddos. If you could take a pic with your phone that would be great too.
