Microfilters are about $35 on line. You can change them. Oil changes (even at dealers) are about $80.00. Plugs shouldn't be anywhere near that amount..you can do them or an Indy can for probably $100 or so. I'd be pissed. I have a 2015 with 30K miles. I'm not bothering with plugs for quite awhile...(although my engine now only has 4k miles on it...the orig blew up at 26k miles.)

I've done all of those jobs myself on my F30 so far, check out Kies Motorsports channel on youtube for some great DIY videos. By comparison, here's my DIY cost: Spark plugs - $60 + one hour of my time Oil change - $35 + 40 minutes of my time Air filter change - $50 (for a lifetime K&N filter) + 5 minutes of my time

All dealers tend to operate like this. Where I live (near Exton, PA), the local Honda dealer service departments are much worse with this sort of thing than my BMW dealer (BMW of Reading (PA))

I don't do regular mechanic don't matter how experience he/she on fixing BMW. Performance equipment like LSD need performance shop that are specifically geared towards racing or what not. I have seen mechanic don't even know what is a full coil over look like. AAMCO F up an OS Giken forge transmission installation for Nissan Silvia transmission..

Agree with everyone here. It's high, but what else is new with dealers?!
Something surprising is it seems majority here still take to dealers for oil changes. Why? Is it not worth the hassle? |

If I am buying new... I'll do oil change until warranty is off at the dealer. After I do my own as I always with my old cars.

At my local dealership they charge $89 for a 4-cyclinder engine and $99 for a six-cyclinder. My local family mechanic will charge around $70, but I don't get a loaner car. I'll pay an extra $20~$30 to keep from having to work out a ride to work. I used to do the changes myself, but finding time these days is difficult. Having a reputable place which is fast, easy, and provides a loaner isn't a bad deal. |
