Real Time Traffic

Just bought RTTI for the first time yesterday and had my first drive this morning. I was skeptical, but for $43/year (theres a deal going on through Jan 7) i thought I'd give it a try.

There was a big crash on the normal highway route and right away RTTI re-routed me on a route I'd never taken before. Said it saved me about +30 minutes in traffic.

Waze people: I know. I'm 25. I understand Waze is awesome and free - but its annoying to take my phone out every morning and plug in the address.

Tldr: try out RTTI it you've been thinking about it

It works even better if you update your maps

I kept my RTTI after the initial subscription ran out for just this reason. It came in handy two weeks ago when a five mile section of I-93 near Boston was basically a parking lot.

Don't you have to plug in the address in your nav? You know that Waze has the ability to save frequent destinations? And generally predicts the location you are typing in after just a few keystrokes? Especially if you've been there before?

I don't! I have my work and my home address programmed to 2 of my radio buttons. So all I have to do it get in the car, press the number "7", and it automatically starts my navigation to work. Definitely one of my favorite features.

Per my own experience the BMW Navi takes a bit longer than Google/Waze to recognize the actual traffic conditions, i.e. when the guidance was just started, the initial route would not reflect the realtime traffic conditions and it would reroute once the RTTI kicks in which takes a couple minutes.

Only if you're plotting a destination. Leaving the nav on but not set for a destination route it shows you where you are and any traffic info is shown on the screen as yellow or red sections on the roads. Mine is always on, so if there's a traffic problem along the way where I'm headed I know about it, be it a two mile or a two hundred mile trip.

I just put it on dual screen and leave map on right. I get then a high level view of traffic around me and whether parts of a motorway are getting congested

The real time traffic works well. I’ve said this before. There is a ramp closed by us. It will be closed for awhile. I routed through that area. It calculated the normal route. In less then a minute it popped up that there was a closure and showed an alternate. Took me the same way my friend said to go. Based on the way it works,I would probably pay once the free time is up.

With Waze you don't have to plug in the address. It knows in the morning to go to my WORK location. If I'm in my daily i3 with carpool sticker, I can plot a carpool route.

I have RTTI in both my bimmers, and I don't use them.

For me issue with Waze is it doesn't show up on the HUD. After one year driving with HUD, I can't live without it...

How do you know if you have RTTI? Just got my car CPO about a month ago. I have an option that says "Traffic Info/Gray Map", but not sure if that is it?

I wear polarized sunglasses so the HUD is kinda hard to see during the day! BMW should find a way to project simple turn by turn through Car Play on the HUD. I'd get non-polarized sunglasses for that.

No different than Waze. RTTI can't re-route you if it doesn't know where you are going.

Yup. If you save work/home, it remembers that is my typical destination at the end of my work day is home, and asks to confirm.

I didn't renew RTTI; I use Waze or Google Maps now for traffic info now. My biggest complaint about apps is that my phone screen size can't compete with the iDrive/IP info; but I frequently use Waze when I know where I'm going, but I want to monitor traffic, so I don't need to see the screen with as much precision.

RTTI services are 3 years from the car's original in-service date. If you have a '15, it's probably expired.

Awesome - thank you! I have the ConnectedDrive app on my phone and am able to see traffic conditions on there, but didn't know about the website.

Ah, got it. Yeah I just checked through my Connected account online and it's available for subscription.

What about ConnectedDrive Services? Is there anything on there worth subscribing for?

I love RTTI, anything that is integrated in the car is better than using any app in a phone.
It will even notify you if there are cars broken down on the side of the road, etc.

Didn't know about such function. Does it need to be customized or turned on?

I only know you can see the traffic details on the left side menu section, but not popup notification.
