440xi b58 ticking sound!

Hello guys,

I have a 440xi 2018 with 53000km. Few weeks ago I went to BMW dealership for 50000Km service. They changed my filters and oil and also spark plugs. When I left the service and I arrived home in my garage I noticed a strange noise coming from the engine, it’s a ticking noise that you can hear also on idle and it intensifies while you accelerate. I went back to the dealership, they said there is no noise and i asked them to check the spark plugs, when I left, the ticking sound was gone, until I put the car on sport mode. The ticking is still there. I am gona record it tonight when i get home.
Do you have any idea what it can be?
Thanks.

Yeah that does not sound right. The normal injector "ticking" sound can be heard in the video (at the 23 second mark, after you let off the throttle and it goes back to idle), but it's very different to what you can hear in your video.

Sounds almost like some form of rod knock...

Your car is still under warranty. As long as the sound can be replicated, the dealer has to invest time to investigate it.

Damn well at least you have a good reason now to take it in. I sorta have a feeling the lube tech forgot to add oil inside the engine and ran it for a few seconds dry and shut it off right away.

So I just came from another dealer. Problem solved.
The other dealership put some bad champion spark plugs, they were all broken in the middle.
I needed to pay the ones they now and I must go to the other dealership to ask for money. I am glad that the problem is solved put I cant belive how incompetent some people are.

That's not good at all. There is a another thread here with a guy that blew his motor when a champion plug failed and dropped its parts into the combustion chamber. Apparently that is bad.

It’s all about that install... was thoroughly advised by Alex at MP when installing to be super careful, makes sense now.
