M2 v M240 vid
good review from Joe Check out 36m, in gear acceleration the M240 looks quicker !? Seriously wondering if the M2 is worth the £15k extra over a discounted M140 !! I know I know its not just straight line speed that matters.

if I had m2 money and didn't want an m3 then I think I would seriously consider an m240i and spend 10k on a track day toy - a Caterham or something and keep 5k to one side for track day consumables
having said that, I'm guessing in the pcp game that this won't necessarily work out as straightforward. It could also be with such hype around the m2 and limited production, it could end up being a very cheep car indeed but you can't really count on that

Well, that could have something to do with it. Joking aside, nobody forced me to get an M2, so I made the decision because I think it IS worth it over the M240i. And the price difference will likely be outweighed by stronger residuals. The good deals available on the M140i/M240i only mean one thing for second hand values, so it's swings and roundabouts. My M135i is a great car but it's no M car. I really wouldn't mind if the M2 is slower than the M240i. I didn't buy it for acceleration. |

I wouldn't buy either. I'd have the Mini that was keeping up with them.

M2 is a true well balanced M car minus the bells and whistles.. sure it has the N55 but its components are upgraded.. the M240i is an in-between it just so happens to have the powerful B58 within that accounts for its power

it will have that exclusivity that few cars have and no m240i will ever have.

My mate picked his M3 up earlier in summer and queried tax free / discounts for M2 and bit like the M4 will likely pitch up next year. |

With productions numbers continuing as they are? I don't think so. There are far more M3 and M4s sold in the UK than there will be M2s. The manufacturing capability isn't going to suddenly change. The Leipzig plant is maxed out and the M2 is built on batches.

Long waiting lists are fine for Ferrarri etc, however for mass production manufacturers such as BMW, it is just lost sales. Discounts will arrive |

With discounts there isn't a huge difference cost wise between an M2 and its bigger and faster sibling the M3 and M4. Two pretty compelling reasons why many buyers would plumb for the M3/4. |

For as long as there is a waiting list, there will be no discounts. And with the volumes of production of the M2, there will be a waiting list for many years to come. Your analogy with Ferrari doesn't make sense. The M2 is four times cheaper than the entry level Ferrari. It's available to a much larger market and therefore the demand will always be there. There are people being told they'll likely take delivery in 2018, and yet they're still keeping their order. They're just buying another BMW in the meantime. The idea that next year there will be discounts similar to those seen on the M3/M4 is ludicrous. How many per year do you think they're building?! The M2 has to be taken off the production line and have various parts added manually. It's a slow process and will not be built in volume numbers. |

If they don't manage to up production, the M2 runs risk of being a low production, restricted colour build. |

Why do you think there are discounts on the M3/M4 and yet there are none on the M2? "Many buyers" don't have a choice because the waiting list for the M2 is so long. |
