More trouble than it's worth?

Hi guys,

I'm new to BMW's in general and recently purchased a 2017 340ix. On my prior car, I was running 18x10+39 squared. Hoping to bring the same wheels over to the f30. Looking at this thread, looks like 18x10+25 is possible with suspension and negative camber. Would 18x10+39 work then if I run 15mm spacers or any recommendation to make this work?

imo, "more trouble than it's worth"=yes

i'm curious, what wheels and what car were these wheels previously on?

the 10" width is the problem up front, because since rim width is measured between the bead seats, the overall(lip to lip) rim width is closer to 11+". as you've already noted, spacers and additional negative camber will be required. you need low offset to clear the spring perch, however the tire will rub the fenderwell liner when turning due to increased scrub radius, which can be resolved with negative camber, which worsens daily driveability. for appearance, at least a mild lowering will be necessary, however anything more than 1.5" lower puts undue stress upon and may cause problems or failure with the front axles.

if you don't mind and think it is "less trouble than it's worth", then i'd run 265/40/18 square, 12.5mm front spacer and eibach pro-kit springs, shorter bumpstops, koni dampers OR minimal drop coilovers. either, with a camber adjustable strutmount.

personally, i'd sell the 10" width rims and get similar looking rims and tires of appropriate width, offset and sizes along with 5-22 eibach pro-kit, koni SA dampers, shorter bumpstops OR KW comfort coilovers.
.

Thanks for the detailed response and recommendation alohasurftoad , Koni SA and Eibach springs is the exact setup I'm thinking of getting after reading through johnung and a few other's posts. Will the 5-22 springs work with Koni SA and xDrive? I thought SA requires a "non-lowering" spring and 5-22 is shorter than 6-22, right? Also since I'm xDrive, is the 5-22 ok?

My prior car and setup was a FK8 on Volks ZE40. Love these wheels so was hoping to get them on the F30.

here is a thread, Koni SA paired with 5-22

johnung has Koni SA with 5-22 as well...

fyi, although 265/40/18 stretched on 10" reduces the tire shoulder poke, at ET26.5 your front will still be poking and require additional negative camber to get the upper tire shoulder flush. it shouldn't be too drastic, though. the wheel lip will still be protruding but i don't think it'll be too outrageous.

just a thought...i have G25 myself and love volk/advan forged also, but i still think you should sell the ZE40 and get a forged wheel by Apex in 18x9.5 ET35 with 265/40/18 square. front spacer or extra -camber not necessary and no issues.

BTW are you sure your ZE40 is 10" wide? on the Rays website I don't see ZE40 in that size, only 18x9.5" ET39 5x120...

Yeah, I wish it was in 9.5. I ordered them last year but had a buddy that was living in Japan put them through.
