Methanol as Fuel?

I grew up at the dragstrip watching top alcohol drag cars and old muscle race cars go down the track. Recently I got back into watching such, and got to talking to a lot of the people who are racing. A lot, if not all are burning 100% methanol as fuel, or alcohol as some know it. Alcohol burning cars sound very different, they're crisper and louder. So, I started thinking, why can't our cars run straight methanol as fuel? I'm guessing it would be cause of the emissions equipment? Or the fuel system? Or both? Just food for thought. Maybe it's time I get a 68 Camaro as a race car

Methanol is poisonous, super corrosive, and dangerous to transport. If you're already rebuilding a car's fuel system to support it and are competing at the highest of levels where every incremental advantage matters then it's good. But pump ethanol (and even race ethanol like Ignite Red, One Ethanol, etc) does the job for modern cars. Even built Dodge Vipers can do 2000+whp on pump E85.
