Just a quick question, I see bmw has made apple car play free for bmw owners and drivers. I was just wondering my '14 328i GT is compatible. Any help would be appreciated mates. Good day.

i was under the impression it was just 2019 models and newer, my 2017 340i still shows i need to pay 300$ for 24 months of service, lame. i was wondering if the other services out there like bmweasycode.com and the likes are valid and work?

You’ll need to go aftermarket for 2014. I dont think any bmw had carplay until late 2016 or sometime in 2017.

Thank you all for responses, to the second poster; I wonder why it's still showing that you have to pay. Have you tried updating your software

Yah, i did, i believe the only free carplay is for the 2019 and 2020 model years? i need to ask though, i have been so confused about it, because though i know my car does not have the latest idrive system, i know it has the version that can support wireless carplay.

Wireless CarPlay and Android auto can be added to cars with IDrive 4. Works quite well, more info on this thread:

I bought one of those Andream boxes for my '16 GT. It was delivered this week, just need to make time to install it and try it out.

Good luck with the install. I'm really impressed with mine. For the price and being non-OEM I didn't expect it to work as smoothly as it does. I've kept my calls on OEM Bluetooth and the latest software updates are worth doing (v2.0.2.6.gpe.b & MCU 19.12.12) links and info on the other thread.

looking for any new updates on upgrades to get apple carplay? for my 2017 i was just able to get some software fixes, for a 2015 I m fearful a whole hardware system may be required?

Here is one option. You can add Carplay to most Idrive systems.

I suggest you order from Aliexpress an Android navigation, it has both Carplay and Android Auto, wireless. I did it and it brought my car back to life
You will have the original OEM info and the new Android UI.
There are quite a lot of navigations on Aliexpress. I suggest you to choose one which has ID8 UI with weather widgets. Mine does not have this feature and this a drawback for me.
