Media playing albums?
Hi guys,
Newbie here and also newbie to BMW's too! Picked up my first 420d m sport at the weekend but am wondering if I'm missing something with the iDrive and playing USB albums. I've put a 32gb usb flash pen in the arm rest port (i don't have a port in the glove box?? This normal??). Anyway, it shows all the albums and i can search by artist etc but is there a way to simply play album 1 all the tracks and when it gets to the end of the album it simply moves on to the next album and plays each track in that album and then onto album 3 and so on? I can not for the life of me work it out. Its a pain to get to the end of album 1 and it just repeats and i have to navigate through to the next album to play it manually. Also, should i have a hard drive? The car has sat nav but i have no option to import music and there is no "music collection" option on the idrive like a lot of the videos show? If i put an audo cd in the slot it does not ask me to import the cd it simply just plays it. Hope you guys can put my straight or advise etc .... Thanks Ro |

Isn't Pro nav standard in a 4er? You should have a hard drive and select import tracks from within a menu in media.
Yes, USB socket is in the arm rest, so that's absolutely normal. |

Cant find anything in any menu to import. On the tracks there is no little save icon either. Just 2 gaps

There is no way I know to go from one album to the next - it just repeats the album from track one again.
No way of knowing about your hard disk (or lack of) without knowing if you have Pro media etc. Need full car spec. Oh, and welcome to the forum .

I think the only way to get continuous play is to make a playlist on your computer
and put all the tracks in the order you want them to play, this is the way i do it ,all the tracks will play continuously I have a Mac and use I tunes Bob |

Even my pro nav would play an album then repeat it - dont think it would move onto next one, unless you format the file structure differently on the USB ?

Thanks everyone for your replies and knowledge. Very much appreciated.
No idea of my car spec ie if pro or biz as I didn't buy it new and don't know how you tell? I don't think I have the extra wide screen in the dash so I'm guessing it's just the basic. Loving the car but just taking a while to adjust from Audi to BMW but I'm sure it will feel like "home" soon enough The 4 series is a real stunner. Got it in that nice blue colour with 19 inch wheels. Only the 2L diesel but love the 8 speed auto and getting 48 mpg rather than 26 is always good :-) and it makes me drive a lot slower lol Thanks again |

If you don't have the widescreen then you don't have pro media and you don't have a hard drive. No clue ref moving on to the next album automatically... can't say I've ever noticed it to be much of a problem though!

Key the VIN into the site here: http://www.bmwvin.com and it will tell you the spec.

No worries, the 32GB flash drive is more than enough for my pathetic 80's music collection ;-) I will just have to try and create some good playlists and do it that way Top advice guys, thanks |
