Absolutely not, iv had 3 windscreens put in by Obriens and everything is the same. They reset your forward camera and Hud is not affected.

Ok great to know. Did you pay privately or via insurance? Suncorp said if I choose another repairer they could only reimburse me for a "reasonable" amount.

Melbourne. The screen they used is Pilkington. Most car manufacturers have screens made by them.

Many of the insurers only pay for aftermarket and are specific on this in the PDS.

That being said, I had my screen recently replaced by O'Briens Alexandria in another European car. It was 750 vs 1900 for OEM. So I thought I would give it a go to see.

Work quality was excellent. I think the screen is fine - there are some reflections of the dash that I don't remember but 75% sure that is probably me.

Garage List
My insurer (Shanons) also uses O'brien's but I've opted to repair the chips as I seem to be getting a lot of chips/cracks on drive days so will wait a bit longer for replacement or a larger crack.

Anyone know of any coating or protection film that can be applied to the new windscreen to stop chips in the future? My windscreen is less than a year old and really quite peppered.

I'm thinking you could apply PPF but not sure how it would go with the wipers.

fits ok, but it got a bit more glare when driving on a sunny day. The problem is, unless you have BMW insurance, they won't use OEM windscreen.

just to share how the replacement went.
obrien carried out the job. not issues re fitment.
only issue is that the speed limit projection is blurry. the text it not sharp.
personally i would rather get a genuine glass installed by by obrien instead of bmw if i had to do it again to save on labour cost component

You should insist on the correct windscreen being fitted - the windscreen is different for vehicles with head up display - I know I had mine replaced several years ago and they had to use OEM part for HUD vehicle.

What are you paying insurance for? - don't accept their BS - get it fixed properly.

Good luck.

OK - I was with GIO ( a Suncorp company) and they replaced it with genuine a 3 or 4 years ago.

They cant use a non genuine part if it is not fit for purpose - ghosting on the HUD. I would also been concerned about the calibration of the camera sensor near the rear view mirror - I would ask BMW Australia if car is safe with non genuine screen, then push back on insurance.

Don't let them get away with it.

Good luck
