OP congrats. Looks like a labor of love. Having been a car guy in a non car friendly country in the past I can certainly understand it's not exactly easy or cheap. It's your money. Do what makes you happy.

"haters" in this context is probably defined as people who are "sick of seeing fake M cars on the road" perhaps? The F80 is defined by performance AND looks, but performance comes first. The heritage of the M3 going back over 30 years is performance. They make an M package for F30s. BMW still withholds the best styling for the high performance cars.

Do what you gotta do but please omit the M3 badge because it originally wasn’t conceived by bmw as an M3

Sorry, but that car never was and never can be M car. It doesn't deserve M badge, sorry
Most people wouldn't recognize the meaning of M badge, but whoever can will just laugh. No point to have it on. |

Turned out pretty good. I don't understand why so many are asking him to debadge the car and calling him a poser like if he was going to get fined for that. After all, I would say a lot of M3/M4 owners that I've seen are "posers" since they just buy the car to show off their M car and don't really use it to its limits anyway.

This is pretty awesome. I'm tempted to put 318i badges on my E90 335i in honor of this dude.
OP.

I understand the desire to avoid the taxes of an M3 but I don't understand why anyone would want their car to look like an M3 if it wasn't one. What makes that car special is not the looks. For me cars are all about driving but I guess for some its about image.

: as it has the appearance of an M3 are you saying that the M3 looks ricey? Or just the wrap? Seems like an odd statement. Of course your entitled to you opinion.

I don't mind people doing such conversions but going as far as using the M3 competition badge on the rear is a little much.

Honestly, I think it looks great.
However, I agree, the M3 badge is the one mistake. It actually takes away from all the effort and hard work OP put in. Rather than show how much he loves his car it instead says, "I wish I had an M3." Can't imagine me putting an M5 badge on my actual M3, just because I want an F90 eventually. Or an M3 comp badge just cause I have a tune and carbon fiber slapped on.

or maybe this is him living in his means. in other countries owning an M isnt as affordable as it is in the states. and what about putting the m body on it because you like it? it's honestly sad to see people who own m3's saying things like "there's zero point" or "you want others to think you have an M" your not the OP, you didnt build his car, you have exactly no place in telling others what hes doing is for vanity. people build replicas all the time not for vanity. food for thought: maybe respect other people on the forums, rather than saying hes "burning the cash" when its OBVIOUS he really loves his car. and spent ALOT of time building it and making it his. the same as YOU DID. if you dont have something helpfull ideally or informative at minimun, maybe keep your comment to yourself. its shitty posts like this that bloat the forum, and turn off other enthusiasts from joining. I really liked your F80 build. but trashing on other peoples builds or trying to discredit their work... calling their bmw a lawnmower... -Rep in my book. |
