I’ve had Saabs that had the rear fog light. Every time I turned it on, I kept being told I had a burned out tail light.

My vintage Volvo has a rear fog operated with a little rocker switch on the cluster.

99.9% of American meatsacks have no idea what "rear fog light" means.

But my pre-LCI F30? Does this coding only work on post-LCI?

Not sure about the F30, but the F32 definitely doesn't.

My '18 F33/LCI had coded working rear fog. Then I switched to the GTS rear lights and also activated the rear fogs via Bimmercode.

How about an F31? I have a '15 328i wagon. Can it be easily retrofitted/activated?

The thread title is Bimmercode but my parameters are in post #40 and reference e-sys. You need to change one parameter in FEM_BODY and several in REM - this is for F-series LCI models:

F32, n55 and b58, in the US do not have rear fogs unless you change the rear assemblies

European models will since it’s required by regulation. If you have a US car, you have three options:
1) get euro rear taillights (expensive)
2) get after aftermarket taillights which have fogs (like VLAND)
3) map another lamp in the US taillight to the fog (plenty of info how to do that in the forum)

Mine has the fogs in the rear assemblies, but no switch. I cut the blocking tabs off the blank switch in the dash and coded them.

Mine is a 2016 LCI, so maybe it's part of the LED package?

Yeah seems to be hit or miss with the LCIs. Maybe F3x has them for US and F8x doesn’t? Year of production might matter too as OEM suppliers may have changes. I have no idea. I just wound up using another lamp in the taillight in coding it (14h and 15h).

Mine's a Canadian car, which I believe come direct from Germany. Perhaps that's the reason?

Interesting. There are entire threads about CAN vs US F-chassis cars with respect to the front headlights, since CAN regulations are different. Apparently some CAN F-series cars came with different headlight hardware despite the part number being the same. So rear light variance would not surprise me.

The only way to know for sure for any light assembly is to examine the hardware itself and test.
