New 2 Series Gran Coupe
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...onights-reveal
Had thought from the artists’ impressions and the test mules this was going to be quite a good looking car, but having seen the rear-end treatment ‘dumpy’ is the word that comes to mind and that’s me being kind... |

I really like the design, grilles are a million times better than the 1 series!
What I don't like is the FWD platform, god knows why it isn't on the RWD platform like the upcoming 2 coupe and convertible! |

I also think they’ve avoided RWD to prevent cannibalising 3 series sales. Jaguar’s FPace sales have been hammered by the EPace, for example, because they’re just too similar in their target markets.

True, if I didn’t have a kid and a dog I’d definitely consider one of these, if it was 6 cylinder and rwd platform!

I don't believe all of the autocar article, never do. If they've gone fwd you can bet there won't be a 3 litre M2 Gran Coupe as they're saying, best you can hope is an M235i with the 2.0. Looking like that, they can stick anything in it for all I care, I won't be going near it.

With so many models in its line up, I think BMW has become a jack of all trades and master of none

This could have been a great car especially given that its dimensions look spot at a time when all cars are getting too big to be truly fun. The new 3 is the same size as the E39 5 Series for example.
But no... it looks like some kind of Japanese saloon to me |

I walked past an e39 the other day it looked pretty compact, the new 3 is barely any bigger than the old 3er and doesn't feel big at all to me.
The SUV's look massive even the mid sized ones like X3/Q5 I will admit.

Interesting - 2 Series GC around the same size as an E90.
Not an E36 as I previously put!

Oh dear and seriously, back to Dakota leather, is that a type-o is it the same on the 1er?
BMW design direction, a lot of people saying they don't like it...will they really go elsewhere. Real real risk of it these days. Also does the car buying world really need 2GC 4GC 8GC I guess so!

It really does look awful. Does anyone (apart from Mr BMW, Teaspoon, with his blue blood and who really doesn't count) like this thing?

I'm using the new outsize grilles as my ugly benchmark. No contest I'm afraid.
