I have to agree with going with the MPPSK if you don't intend to street race or competitively track the car. Going after-market for tunes, DP, exhaust, HPFP, bigger turbo, fueling blends, list goes on for this engine's potential. Very slippery and expensive slope! The MPPSK has a lot going for it. Yes it's expensive out of the box but it doesn't push the engine and chassis to it's limits and provides an extra punch when needed. Warranty stays intact, sounds aggressive in sport and sport + but quiet in comfort and eco modes when I need to behave around adults. Fuel mileage doesn't seem affected with this tune for road trips and daily driving. Hell my 340ix gets better fuel mileage than my e90 328ix ever did! I would only suggest adding the stage 3 xHP transmission tune that's reversible in a few minutes for dealer warranty visits. IMO it really adds to sport+ drive mode shift speed and rounds out the MPPSK package.

I picked up an M Performance exhaust a few months ago from another Forum member and have been very happy with it. I would have loved to do the full MPSSK, but it was a bit out of my reach and I got a great deal on the exhaust. Maybe one day I'll step up to the full MPSSK, but for now, I'm very happy and my warranty is completely intact.

I drive mainly in Comfort so wouldn't want that compromised for improvement in Sport / Sport+.

2. BMW has smart people and they think this is how the engine should be tuned. 3. It comes down to who you trust. I can only afford one car. As a side note, BM3 with the AWE exhaust: 1. Exhaust with carbon fiber tips (https://www.kiesmotorsports.com/coll...29487069921395) = $2194 2. BM3 tune (https://www.kiesmotorsports.com/prod...bed3f59e&_ss=r) = $595 == $2789 + labor... or I can go with MPPSK from BMW for $3500 out the door, with the above benefits of my warranty and reliability. |

Also the MPPSK has a type-approval allowing it to be legally registered and driven in Europe. ==> You can always go cheaper, no one is arguing that. But you don't get the same.

Suggest you read the dedicated MPPSK thread. There is hardly any question not answered multiple times….

It's only a bit louder in comfort mode but to be honest it's pretty quiet and doesn't drone at highway speeds like some of the competitors. Where you'll notice it being louder in comfort mode is in the first few minutes of starting the car where both exhaust valves are open. Once it settles into a normal idle it gets quieter. If you live in a residential neighborhood your neighbors will know your BMW has been awoken.

Out of curiosity, why are US dealerships charging such insane prices for MPPSK fitting? I paid £1700 out the door with carbon tips a year ago which google suggests is ~$2300...
The UK dealerships here were all charging the same sort of price and seemed to be fully aware that there are a limited number of vehicles that they will be able to fit them on going forwards (2018 onwards with the PPF are not compatible) so i'd assume they'd be far more open to a good deal on something they may end up taking up inventory that they can't fit in the future. It was a steal at £1700 and worth every penny, at $4000/£2900 I would have had to think about it a little longer and may have looked at non-OEM options... it is amazing though as everyone else has said. |
