Naw, I got it at crappy tire, it was on sale that day for half price. Plus I wanted to use this because BMW use Pennzoil as their re-branded OEM factory oil after they signed the contract with Shell a few years back.

That's because people were changing their oil every 3-5k miles.

You probably could run SAE30 in your car on a 3k mile oci.

any reccomendations for Oil on the B46 motors?

I found some confusing info for oil for my 2019 430i X-Drive Convertible with the B46 Motor.
One site recommends 0W-20 LL-14FE another 5W-30 or 5W-40 LL-01
any ideas on this?
I'm finding it difficult to get maint. specs like oil filter and spark plug etc part numbers, any help with links would be great as well.

Use the oil grade recommended in your manual. Use this for part numbers:

To support the Rotella usage in non diesel engines. Here is a photo of my old 2003 Audi 1.8T head after ~60K of Rotella T6 (~6 OCI). The head had 160K miles on it but you couldn't tell

Run Penzoil Ultra/ or Platinum Euro, Liqui Molly or Rotella T6. All will be good oils and change no more than 6K miles and you are good.

I’m gonna run Castrol 0-40 for 24 bucks for 5 quarts on amazon. That makes it cheaper than t6.

Just ordered the LL-04 BMW oil since I am currently in Italy. It says it's for diesel or gas in EU. Below are the BMW part numbers. For $1.50 more a quart I rather get the BMW one than guess with aftermarkets. Still less than half of what Europeans pay. I am also not bothering at all with the 0W-20 LL-14 FE+.

83212365946 - BMW TwinPower Turbo 5W-30 LL-01 (all gas)
83212365949 - BMW TwinPower Turbo 5W-30 LL-04 (all diesel, EU gas only)
83212365954 - BMW TwinPower Turbo 0W-20 FE+ Engine Oil LL-14 FE+

Quote:
1) BMW Longlife-04 and BMW Longlife-12 oils are only approved for petrol engines in Europe (EU plus Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein). They must not be used outside this area as problems are often encountered with the fuel grade.

Changing my oil with this: Idemitsu Zepro 0w20
It's anti-lspi and dexos gen2 approved, in other words, it's good stuff.

Personally I'd stick with oils which meet the BMW specification for your model while your car is under warranty. If there ever was a warranty issue with the engine, and you could not prove you used the specified oil, you could be out of luck no matter how good the oil. BMW says use one of these, you used another.

Just my $0.02. Your mileage may vary.

Agreed, saving a few bucks doesn't justify the potential risk.

Dexos is a GM certification. I don't know how it compares to BMWs LL-01, but I wouldn't assume that because an oil has Dexos certification, that it means it's "good stuff" for BMW engines. In reality, you can use just about any full synthetic in the proper weight as long as your shorten the oil change intervals.

I change mine every 5-6000 miles anyways, even with LL-01 Castrol. I would recommend the same if you're set on using a non-LL-01 oil. Otherwise, spend the extra couple bucks for a BMW certified oil.

Dexos is probably fine too, if you're out of warranty. If you're within warranty don't give BMW a reason to deny a claim, no matter how bogus the reason may be,

Well, it is an ACEA A3/B4 oil, which is what BMW LL-01 is based upon. I note, however, that the website for Idemitsu does not recommend any of it's oils for BMW (at least any F3x engine).

It's "probably" not going to harm our engines, but why take a chance?

The only thing using it will harm is BMW's bottom line. To carry the LL classification they'd have to pay BMW a royalty, as the LL classification is subject to BMW's copyright.

Wow, I didn't know about LL-01; first time bmw owner. Don't want to void my warranty, I'm going to return the oil and get some LL-01 oil. Thanks everyone.
