Making rims black

Hey guys! I want to make my rims black. They already are but they are plasti dipped. I want to know what my options are. I know there's painting, wrapping, plasti dipping. Are there other options?

Not much like $400-$700 depending on the rims.

I got quoted $600 for taking the wheels off, taking the tires off, powder coating rims, balancing, and mounting. That's a decent price right?

Yes, but feel free to keep sending out Yelp quote requests.

If you don't LOVE your current wheels, I would consider putting that money towards a lightweight well constructed set you do love.
I would not bother powder coating OEM cast wheels that are barely worth $600, FWIW.

use BMW OEM Pads and dont wash the wheels. they'll be black in no time.

I'd say look for an aftermarket set you do like in black.

😂😂 I agree haha. But the thing is, if I buy new rims, I also have to buy new tires and then I have to also put for balancing and mounting. I feel that would cost more than $600

i cant imagine the oem wheels are anything fancy. It'd be worth it to me. Only M car wheels would be worth powdercoating in my opinion. $600 on stock 17s/18s is a lot to spend on them if you are not in love with them.

Idk, some people don't like their stock rims, but I like mine. They're already black due to plasti dip but I've redipped the wheels 2 times in the 3 years I've had the car.

I'm a fan of powder coating but other guys have a point about it costing more than the wheels are worth. I don't think that you said what size & model wheels and tires you currently have. Remember that they have value if you sell them too.

I'd suggest taking a good look at potential wheels that you may like. Also consider it as an opportunity to potentially upgrade the size, model or type of tire. For example, my car came with Pirelli runflats in 225/45-18.

I ended up sticking with 18" because of ride quality and potholes in my area. I also stuck with a square setup instead of going staggered with my xDrive. I can still rotate tires easily. But I upgraded to much better handling 245/40-18. (Could have gone with 245/45-18 for handing and comfort and more fender filling for a more dropped look.)

Also changed to non-runflats for less costly tires and better ride. Big change was summer Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Incredible road grip and handling. If you want to stay all season the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ are excellent too.

So you do have lots of options to consider if you take the time to consider the cost and benefits.

Hope this helps!

I have the stock BMW 17" V SPOKE 395 225/50/17 but I changed them from the run flat pirelli to the Michelin sport A/S 3+ tires you've mentioned

Powder coating gets my vote. I had an Infiniti G35 before I got my F30, first I plastidipped the wheels black but I wasnt totally satisfied with the outcome. Decided to get them powder coated gloss black and it was exactly what I'd been looking for. They were $80 per wheel for 18's down here in South Florida

Did you have to take your wheels off and give it to them? I called some shops and a lot of them told me that I need to bring them the wheels without the tires

When I brought the wheels to them they were already off the tire (they were a spare set that had never been mounted). However prior to bringing the wheels in, the shop manager advised that it would cost extra if they had to remove the wheels from the tires themselves.

Yeah that's also what I've heard. Idk if it's worth spending all that much anymore

I in no way whatsoever thought that buddy. And yes buddy, I did know it involves heat. However, I thought they'd be able to remove the tires for me....
