Car is now with the local dealer and as some of you have said it is wait and see.

At the time it happened I saw the water ahead and watch another saloon car ahead of me go through the water successfully so once the wave had abated I followed slowly but tried to keep the revs up which is difficult in an automatic, the car got half way through and then stopped. The electrics remained working and when trying to start just got a clunk noise. No water in the cabin or the boot or boot well.

While stranded I was passed by about 6 cars which had no problems but they weren't bmw's! also passed by 2 horseriders!!!

I'll let you all know what happens next

I done the exact same thing many of year ago in a 306. Clio got through ok my turn next and it died.

A few days in the garage and it was working again (just about). It would throw out so much smoke on start up abs make a horrible noise.
