Thoughts on used 435i?

Hi Everyone,

This would be my first BMW and would like everyone's opinion on whether to pursue this deal.

2014 - 435i with 52k miles and 1 owner who leased. Asking price is $30k. Clean Carfax. Has the following features & options:
- Black on Red
- M-Sport Package
- M-Performance Power Kit, Rear Euro Spoiler, and Black Grills
- Blue M-Sport Brakes
- Tech Package
- Driver Assistance Package
- Premium Package
- Lighting Package

Pros:
- Exactly what I'm looking for
- While mileage maybe high its 1 owner and my total yearly commute to work is about 3k miles.

Cons:
- Mileage is high
- Located on west coast
- I live in Northeast, its RWD and I would have to ship, and get snow tires for winter.

Dealership is not a BMW dealer but one that only sells BMWs and has good reviews.

What do you guys think? Is this worth it? If I could get them to sell for $28.5k or $29k?

seriously with all the available used within striking distance why would you buy a car you have to ship. I would get it if it were something special but very common car. Keep looking and get in and drive the very car you are going to own or buy new.

Fair point. The ones close to me don't have any of the M-performance products I'd like, I want to buy this car but my gut is telling me no.

I considered leasing. A local BMW offered me a 440ix with same build and m-performance products for $820 a month....

Honestly, it probably wouldn't be a big deal finding a car with the M Perf parts and adding them on later. Maybe you'd like it at first without them and it'll add to the fun down the line when you throw them on. Just my 2 cents

It's 'in the ballpark' eyeing things over. Sounds like same car that's here, except it has HUD and a few other bits. Try to gt 'em down to $28.5k inc ship to you. Like you, i drive very few miles so going higher mileage car is good for you, as things have probably been sorted.

Carfax doesn't indicate what maintenance has been taken off. There is a gap between 62 miles and 52k miles. Thoughts?

(cringe)

Something sounds very wrong, since dealers do report to Carfax. Also, since we're assuming the car has zero warranty.... pass. FYI: Took me about 6 months to find just the right car. Right now it is a BUYERS market for used cars, especially for an out of warranty 50k miles 2014 435i.

Miles are too high for 2014, I'm sure you can get find one in the east coast for fewer miles that fit your budget.

Don?t settle... find the exact car you want. Like others have said, there are plenty on the used market and always growing with cars coming off lease.

Also, you can do better then the lease price you were given.

Thank you guys as much as I want this car, I agree that the lack of a detailed maintenance history along with the high mileage + cost of shipping doesn't make this worth it.

I think you've made up your mind, but just to make sure...run away!!

Out of warranty, car sight unseen, sketchy maintenance history...this isn't a ranibow coloured unicorn...a better one than this will pop up soon.

52k miles is fine. Hard to rack up that many miles without most of them being highway. You should buy it, especially if it's CPO.

I wouldn't buy a car without seeing it in person first. They could tell you its in great shape, etc and then when receive it, it's turns out be a POS. Its a big risk to take (especially from that far away). Unless you know what to look for when buying a used car, you should get a PPI done.

For the mileage, the price is a little high. Not too bad, though. You definitely have to test drive the car before buying it.

if it's got a cpo on it or other warranty, it's a pretty good price. 30k for a well loaded 2014 435 msport with the brake upgrade and the mppk? dude should get it.

Dealership is not a BMW and OP didn't mention CPO so I'm fairly sure it's not. I think the price is just about right for what it is, maybe high just purely based on mileage. But if the car is super clean and most of those miles were highway, I wouldn't worry about it too much. At about 80,000 miles, these cars will see some issues though.

Exactly this. I'm confused at all the run away if there's no warranty comments. Any dealer will offer an extended warranty on a used car (mine did).

I'd personally not spend more money on shipping though for a used car (hell even a new one unless it was REALLY worth it to me). That mileage wouldn't bother me. Just means the last driver was quicker to sort out any issues by the time it got to you, lol. The extended warranty on that mileage would be ideal as it'd probably get used and there's nothing like dropping a few extra grand on an extended warranty and never using it.

The car can't be CPO'd non BMW dealer has it. The dealer that took it in trade or off lease wholesaled it out rather than trying to sell it because of the mileage, MPPK & other performance options.

Would move on & continue to look.

Trust your first instinct, move along and don't look back. Your gut will know when it's the right car. Best of luck!
