I can't see the Police doing a CCTV trawl for this. They are likely to just file it without a reg. number.

If I were you I would do my own detective work. Visit any local commercial premises that are near the collision site and ask them if they have CCTV that covers the where it took place. Some may look for you. If they find anything then inform the Police what you have found, and they will be obliged to investigate a lead.

It's a long shot, but who knows you might get lucky.

I have asked the city council for cctv footage, apparently there are a lot of cameras on this road. I don't expect the resolution to be that great so probably won't be much help.

In this day in age, especially with the new GDPR regulations, I can't imagine any business, let alone the council, releasing CCTV footage without it being a request from the police or the insurers.

They do have a specific page for requesting cctv footage so might actually get something. Either way I'm not expecting great quality and for it to make much difference.

I specifically didn't say that they would (as they probably wouldn't), but they can look at their footage and tell the OP that it does show something that the Police would be interested in. Then the Police can visit and make any necessary request.

Always couch a subject access request in terms of access to your personal data - its you in the CCTV footage and you could always request footage of your data from CCTV in the old DPA, dont think theres much difference in GDPR.

It is reasonable to comply if they crash into your car imo...

Yes you may be right. Most of the people who would access the CCTV probably wouldn't know one way or the other unless they were a big organisation like the council.

My point was that the Police won't go knocking on doors for a damage only RTC with no registration number, but the OP could do the leg work and if he finds anything pass it to the Police.

I have spoken to a couple of businesses next to location of the accident that do have CCTV but apparently you only get to see the pavement on these cameras so not much use. The police rang me earlier however to tell me they have a council CCTV of this area and they will review the footage and get back to me in the next couple of days.

Sorry to hear on the issue, some people are just complete idiots, with no consideration for others.

The wife had a similar issue when someone tried to change lanes and just about drove over the front of her car. Alloy took a big hit as pic below, but apart from body / wheel damage there was no damage to any other components, so hope yours is OK.

Your damage looks worse than mine on the bodywork so hopefully there is no internal damage on mine either. Yes some people will try some ridiculously risky manoeuvres, I always try and anticipate idiotic driving but this muppet completely blindsided me so I had no way of avoiding it.
