Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 VS Pilot Sport 5
Hello folks, I wanted some feedback/insights to help me decide my next tyre. I've used the Pirelli Cinturato P7 which came with the car and that was the most horrible experience I had with a tyre, so years ago I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport 4, which, was night and day. Since than, I had no problems and the experience is great!
However, Pilot Sport 5 came as a substitute for the PS4 and I'm also wondering about Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02. AFAIK, PS4S>PS5, but I've seen people comparing the Continental to the PS4S and I wonder if those are better than the PS5. Since I plan to change rims but I still want to keep the R17 wheels, I can only go the ps5 route or this continental one. Anyone used both? What do you guys think? |

i only have the PS4S and predecessor to the Conti ECS, predecessor to the 02.
in terms of performance, i believe the PS4S is top, with the 02 a very close 2nd. although the PS5 is a summer also, it is not as good as the top two |

I checked Tire Rack and found reviews and ratings for two of the three tires mentioned by the OP:
Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...um=245YR8ECS02 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...m=245YR8PS4SXL They don't list the PS5 yet.

I found a video about the contis. It is local to me (Brazil), portuguese language, so I will link it and try to resume the important stuff:
He claims that the contis are superior to the PS4 and PS5 due to being in a different category, because the ExtremeContact SPORT 02 actually trade blows with the PS4S, also referrencing Tire Rack and Tyre Reviews. He also goes to the track with the car and claims that the contis were 2,1s faster than the PS4. "The new Continental ExtremeContact Sport02 is also now the preferred tire of the BMW Performance Driving School and the AMG Driving Academy" is also a claim made in the video, which is true according to BMW Blog. (https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/12/07/c...port02-review/) I'm sold for the contis, the only thing left that I wanted to see is a dry and wet braking test after worn, because even tho I'm sure they have a better performance than the PS5, would that still be true after a couple thousand miles? If I had to guess, the answer would be YES, but a guess is still a guess. |

You can't really go wrong with either.
Contis are great buys for those not wanting to pay the Michelin Man tax, let alone Bridgestone Potenza. The only thing I don't like about the North American Continental product is the NASCAR font on the sidewalls. |
