In PA, we only need a back license plate. A lot of people here have custom European plates on the front bumper.

Sweet,
You got the best of both worlds right there.

How would you compare the two together. Pros's and con's?

GC V'S GT?

Actually that's not a GC, it's just a Coupé, so it's hard to compare them. I like both of them as they have different purposes in our family. Can't complain of anything

Okay, so she's fairly standard (i.e. no optional extras) but very pleased after 500 miles on the drive, comfort, performance, quality and fuel economy (currently 48mpg on a mixture of driving) albeit nothing too fast.
A proper review when she is run in and I have worked everything out.

Great photos! Please tell us about your European trip- destinations, special sights etc! Also, tell us about your 340 GT: colors, interior, options, etc. When did you do your trip?

We just got back from the ED 2 weeks ago. We will not see the car for at least another month. There is no confirmation that the car is on a ship yet.

Most of those pictures are from the Grossglockner Alpine road in Austria. It was the highlight of the entire trip, but you do need to have good weather, I kept checking the forecast and picked the best day. Because of break-in we did stop a few times just to let the brakes cool down. There were a hundred opportunities to stop and take pictures.

Our trip of course started in Munich, with a overnight stop to see the Neuschwanstein castle (last picture) which was the inspiration for Cinderellas castle at Disney. Never did any of the official tours due to timing uncertainty. Then it was off to Saltzberg for several nights doing all the usual tourist things including dinner at a beer hall, plus the day trip for the Grossglockner and a salt mine tour. Next stop was overnight near Melk Abby, going to the Abby next day and driving along the Danube to Vienna. The small towns along the way were very good, but the Danube was a disappointing muddy brown, not what I was expecting. We ended at Vienna where we immediately dropped off the car but spent 2 more days sightseeing there.

Car is Imperial Blue, with brown interior and lower dash. As we are getting older (cant turn neck as far as we used to), we got every driving aid including top down cameras, radar cruse control, blind spot/lane departure warning, collision avoidance and self parking. The fact the GPS can display the current speed limit was a great help as often it would change 6 times within a mile. The forward facing camera also can read the speed signs for temporary changes in the case of construction.

As we were on break-in and was careful, cannot tell the power the new B58 engine has. But I did go up to the 100 MPH break in limit.

I can't get over how similar our BMWs are and how similar our ED trips were! We picked up our Midnight blue luxury line/saddle interior 335 in November of 2014 (2015 model). Drove to Rothenburg, Erhfurt, Berlin (hit 120mph) on autobahn, then to Vienna where we dropped the car. I had planned to do Performance Center delivery in Spartanburg, but cancelled at last minute. MAJOR regret! Have you looked into this? If possible, I urge you to add this on to your experience! I think you can still do it since I had it listed and was able to have my car pulled off in Newark and not continue on to Spartanburg. I had heard of the Grossglockner, but time ran out so never drove this road. Must have been fun! Besides the Performance Center delivery, one other tip: when you car finally gets here, get to the dealer to retrieve your German licence plates- someone at my dealer ripped me off and are probably on his garage wall instead of mine! I'm sure you will grow to appreciate more and more the unique qualities of the GT: rear sear space of a 7er, hatch space of an SAV. Best of luck!

I've been to Spartanburg and did the factory tour there (Munich tour was better) so no need to revisit. My dealer already knows about saving the temporary plates, and I did snag the safety kit, warning triangle and euro maps on the USB stick before I dropped the car off. If you also dropped off in Vienna I had the hardest time getting past security. They did not speak English and were really not very helpful. Even the Taxi driver who came to pick us up and spoke the language had a hard time getting in. For those considering the Grossglockner it's a full day event. We ended up driving it in both directions as it was the fastest way to get back, otherwise a long detour around the mountains.

The 340 GT is replacing our E39 540iT (currently for sale), with the two cars being functionally very similar. As you can tell I am not a fan of SUV's.

You are smarter than me about the plates and the map memory stick which I assumed would be overlooked by customs and be in the car in the US. Two years ago Vienna security was not so strict. I took the Spartanburg tour this past spring and it was terrible- almost a Disney type tour on a train through an automated display! But that is not what the Performance Center delivery experience is all about: you are given track driving instruction with a driver, driving not your car but one similar to yours, free night in a Marriott, and dinner. Then your car is prepped and you drive off- home or on your own driving tour. A number of years ago I paid for a day on their track and found it a learning experience- where else are you placed on a circle spayed with water and told how to get out of a skid and then told to drive increasingly fast until you skid and then try to get out of that using what you just learned! A number of my class ended up in the grass verge! Where are you in Central Jersey? I grew up in Bergen county and went to Rutgers in New Brunswick, tried to get a job around there, but failed. Got that first job in Westchester, and stayed in New York thereafter.
