New rotors/pads for F30?
I have a 2015 335xi that I bought a year ago, and it needs new brake rotors and pads (certainly on the front, probably on the rear).
I'm going to do it myself, but unsure what parts to order. I simply don't know how to determine what will fit. Below is a photo of my front wheel. Any help would be appreciated.

Look up part numbers at Realoem.com; input last 7 of car's VIN number.
Repair procedures at Newtis.info site. Many sources for parts, FCP Euro is a great supplier- they offer lifetime warranty, even on wear items like brakes. They offer Genuine BMW and other brands of parts. Easy DIY/Good luck/Bill |

Pelican parts is a supplier I've used for years. You can also go with ECS or Turner Motorsport. All three are basically the same company, and have a lot of inventory.

I just did the front brake pads and rotors for my 2015 428i x-drive.
I agree with two posters above that realOEM.com is the best and I bought all the parts from Pelican Parts. This morning I bought everything for the rear brakes from Pelican Parts as well. For a decade or more when I owned an E46 I used Pelican as a primary source. They have a terrific website and I've never had a problem with them. podman |

I bought these for my 15 335i xdrive. Mechanic says I need new rotors too. These are the M-sport pads. Going to put them on non M-sport brakes.

My 2015 F32 Coupe is at 38,000 miles.
First brake replacement for the vehicle: The front pad wear sensor activated a few weeks ago. My rear brakes have 4mm of pad left. The rear wear sensor has not yet activated. podman |

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...rakes/GfqGDVnR Why are you paying someone to change your pads? This is an easy DIY. If you're got no braking issues like steering shimmy or vibration and rotors are above minimum thickness, just change pads. |

I don’t know how much skimming costs, but if you’ve got a pair of genuine BMW two piece/Ali hub rotors then even aftermarket they’re £120 each so £240 plus cost of the pads.

If my brakes cost that much I'd stop my car like Fred Flintstones does in his foot mobile. podman |

Have been changing brakes and rotors as needed for awhile and we usually change rotors about every other time that we change pads. Turning down a rotor makes sense, but have never done it. I cant see why these rotors cant be turned down

Here is my two cents on F30 brake replacement:
OEM Rotors are high quality but they are also overpriced and for some insane reason BMW doesn't coat them so they rust. Brand new BMW's sit on dealer lots with rusty rotor hats and vanes. It is just crazy to me. Zimmerman is a German OEM supplier (who may even make rotors for BMW) and makes great inexpensive rotors that are zinc coated to avoid rust. I concur that any mechanic who claims that rotors need to be changed every time that pads are changed is just trying to sell brake rotors. OEM Pads are terrible in terms of performance and the heavy sticky black dust that they put out. Turner Motorsports has great write-ups (buried levels deep on their website) on both 328i and 335i brakes that explain which brake components came on different models. Some OEM pads are better than others but in general they are all poor. After a lot of research and after using them on my own car, I think that Hawk HPS 5.0 pads are a great street pad with great bite, pedal feel, heat up quickly and put out a smaller amount of much lighter dust that washes off easily. I've heard good things about EBC Red also, but they are more expensive. Don't forget to flush out and replace all off your brake fluid every two years to avoid fluid picking up moisture which creates a safety hazard and damages expensive brake components. Want a noticeable improvement in your brake pedal feel? Replace your rubber brake hoses with a set of four stainless steel brake lines. For example, a set of StopTech four SS lines cost about $106 and labor cost is meager if done at the same time as a brake job. Provides a much more solid brake pedal feel because you no longer have rubber hoses that expand every time the pedal is pressed, instead of that force going to compress the brake pads. Hope this helps! |
