So heres something interesting. I have a 2016 F36 and im almost positive it has the lighting package, because i can select between sport and classic and the lights along the door cards change between amber/white.

The interesting thing though the footwell lights are super dim.

I went ahead and installed this, along with the Y adapter that runs to the footwell lights (since i dont have cupholder led), and while the bezel lights up amber, it doesn't light up white.

Any ideas?

How and where did you get the y adapter that’s long enough to go to the footwell? You also don’t have the cup holder led and need to tap the power under the footwell.

Also, looks like if i set the lighting to classic, the footwell lights up fine. But setting to sport, only the door strips change to white. The footwell gets extremely dim and the lci trim doesn't light up.

Sounds like the polarity is messed up.

I'll be honest with ya... I think the same happens without the y cable. I only really noticed it now when I realized the trim isn't lighting up white in sport mode.

That is clearly not right.
It should be all white or all amber. With or without Y-Cable.

That is not possible, as coding is not involved in the first place. Has to be a wiring issue.
When you unplug the Y cable and go back to stock configuration, it will work as it should.

That's what I'm saying... My footwell never lit up when I'm sport mode. I always thought it was super dim but it became apparent when i installed the new trim that maybe the footwell isn't getting the sport lighting since ethe trim doesn't light up either.

From your pics it seems the footwell is in sport mode (white) when set on classic mode (amber) in iDrive and completely off when set on sport mode (white) in iDrive. Right? If that is correct and it was like this from factory, it's very weird!
Maybe something is wrong with the wiring at the FEM or the polarity in the plugs on the footwell lights.

The wiring is coded with brown for Pin1 (ground), red/white or red for Pin2 (orange LED), blue/white or black for Pin3 (white LED).

yep, im an idiot, you were right, looks like it WAS the wiring harness. Looks like they joined the middle two wires together !?!. Should have looked closer. They went from 4 pin to 3 pin, but instead of omitting pin2, they joined it with pin 3. smh

fixed the harness and all is well now. phew

What I would love to figure out is if there is a way to keep the MATTE Surround with only a gloss center section like in this picture here :

My car doesnt have much glossy black, So I would love the LED surround but not so much all the glossyness.

I found this pic in this thread ( F32 Trim Upgrade )
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...=886145&page=4

I may take a chance and see if I can hack the two together but if anyone knows first hand that could save me time and money.

I know someone who did this (merge new and old trim), but it involves a lot of dremeling and glueing, as the led strip is not a direct fit.

I would save me the headache and either paint/plastidip the LCI trim to my liking or use a wrap.

I agree unless that M3 painted bezel above has the LED backlight as well then we would be all set but I could be dreaming on that hahah.

Guys, anybody the y cable/adapter available? If so, please contact me. Otherwise I am going to order the parts as listed by Dante but then I have some spare parts/cables myself (they go by 10 pcs).

No cupholder, no footwell

Hi,
My name is Pascal and I'm new to the forum.
My question is:
I have no cupholder light, no footwell light and am happy to settle for just the orange light. Where do I get power from?

Nice mod.
Just did mine and when I saw the clips on the back, I was like oh great...

Took 20 mins overall, it was the first time the trim was removed so it was... tight, in a good way...

Too bad the ambient light are not visible during the day light

I have Y-cable for the NO cupholder LED method (aka footwell light method) for sale if anyone is interested. Decided not to pursue the project as I did not like the look of the gloss black trim.
