Sport Mode

I've got a March 2014 330d M Sport without Active Suspension or VSS.

On my car, I presume that in SPORT or SPORT+ modes, the steering and suspension are not adjusted in any way?

On my car, would there be any difference from moving the gear selector left or selecting SPORT mode with the driving experience switch? (Apart from being able to use manual shift of course).

I've only done a few hundred miles so I don't know the car well enough to notice any difference.

Have you tried the car in sport mode yet?? if not I suggest you go for a run in the car and click into sport mode as all will be revealed!!! 🚀

I've not got VSS or Adaptive Suspension, however Sport makes a 'noticeable difference' :-)

Thanks for the replies, I know the following (I think) about SPORT mode:
The throttle response is more sensitive and the gearbox shift points are raised.
The gearbox will not select 8th gear (in A/T)

And I believe that SPORT+ mode (in addition to SPORT):
Changes Stability control from DSC to DTC
Disables kick down and upshift (even at the red line)

What I don't know is what I asked in my original questions

lots of historical posts on this elsewhere.

My options are in the idrive options, select either both sport in drivetrain and chassis or one of these as required.

In my case the drivetrain shows much more urgency than in comfort mode if drivetrain is selected. Others may have experience of the sports chassis selection as opposed to,default "comfort" mode.

Ok then no, apart from answers above, no difference.

Biggest change is sport + due to traction.

A 330d has Servotronic Steering as standard. So, the steering will also 'weight up' in sport mode (if chassis is selected?).

The rpm's sit at 2k, ready for action. Usually 1,100 up in comfort. The throttle becomes more sensitive and it just wants to shift!

Steering is linked to chassis, throttle response to drivetrain. So depends on which are checked ahead of using the modes toggle.

Using sport mode with drivetrain checked typically drops one gear, additionally flicking the stick to M/S will often drop another gear depending on road speed, (two if you go the M/S in comfort mode) as the sport mode does not set the gearbox change points quite the same or as aggressively. I've described the gearbox sport mode as a "half-way function", in my 5-series.

7th & 8th gears do engage in sport mode, or M/S program, but requires roads speeds way above legal speeds to see 8th gear.

So going off that would there be any difference in a standard non adaptive 318d manual?

I think steering gets more aggressive (read: heavier) when you enter Sport if you have servotronic. Unfortunately, I can't go out and test this for you as I'm in the middle of the worlds longest 8 weeks. Ever.

I ordered 20th March and my dealer is saying mid May. Only obvious difference to you on spec is I didn't go for 19's - wonder if there's a supply issue?

The wait's a killer though isn't it.

Your correct in the the 325d the steering gets "heavier" in sport mode. As above the throttle response is increased.

Do you have Active suspension or VSS on your car Ken? I can't find any options in iDrive to alter drivetrain/chassis settings? My car has neither AS or VSS.

As far as I 'm aware the fact that I do have Adaptive Msport suspension doesn't affect the option to configure sports mode.

It it's possible the sequence in IDRIVE is

Select SETTINGS

Select DRIVING MODE

SElect CONFIGURE SPORT

check one of three boxes

Drivetrain/chassis

Drivetrain only

Chassis only

Hope this helps. Drivetrain certainly livens up response in my one month old 3 series.

Sorry. so I was quite wrong and adaptive suspension gives you options you must select yourself in sports Mode.
