F32 iPod not working
Hi guys, my first thread on here...
I have recently purchased a 420d M sport with pro media pack and sadly did not go for upgraded hifi (boy how i'm kicking myself). Anyway, I have tried to connect my ipod but it keeps coming up with the not supported message. I have tried OEM BMW Y cables and an iPod lead, its not my iPod as they are working fine in my standard F20 1 series. The dealer and so called techy guys have no idea what the problem is and dont seem to be bothered to help me fix this either. I could do with some help on this guys.. Thanks |

With Pro-Media you can just connect with the OEM Apple USB to Lightning or Dock lead.
Both my iPhone and iPod Classic work fine with their respective OEM Apple USB leads. However, my iPod Classic did have an issue with freezing up. So, I googled BMW software update and downloaded a software update to for the car from the BMW web page to a thumb drive. Installed it off this directly to the car. No freezing issue since... Fingers crossed it stays that way. I'd try updating the car and ensuring the iPod software is also up to date.

It could be the age of the iPod. Can you try an iPhone instead? Standard cable should work with pro media.

I've tried various iPods and iPhones, with original apple cables and still nothing. I will try and update the car software and see if that does anything.
Thanks |

Ok, I'm getting very annoyed with this system already. I'm not a technophobic by any means, but the car is now saying theres no USB inserted with a software update on it. Even thought there is and the little USB sign appears in the display..
So currently cant even pull off an update |

My dealer did a software update last year and afterwards my car would not recognise my iPod classic 60gb, I had the same message as yours. I had to wait for BMW to update the software so the dealer could apply the fix which they duly did.
It might mean your car will need a software update for a fix. |

My two week old 420 with pro media works fine with an ipod classic via usb so it might be something in your software.
I too wish I'd gone for upgraded hifi as it certainly isn't the standard of the wife's standard Merc system, nor my previous Audi with Bose. I still can't receive texts either. Still,lots of toys to play with! |

@Raj420
The software update needs to be in the main directory of the thumb drive for it to work. Plug in, start the car, go to menu, I think it's in the settings menu. Select software update. It took my car about 3 minutes. On a separate note. I must have tempted the gods of USB. Just went out and my iPod Classic was frozen again. Showing no device on the menu. So, I rest the iPod and it's working again. Have you soft reset your iDevice recently? A soft reset re-initialises and seems to clear most errors without damaging any information stored on the device. iPod Classic reset: Unplug, unlock, hold down menu and home (centre) button until the Apple logo appears. iOS device reset: Unplug, unlock, hold down the home button and power button until the Apple logo appears.
