Yeah speed limits are crazy and also seem based on who lives there at times.

Well connected persons, councillors etc and it's 20mph or a 30mph with speed bumps, average Joe and it's a 40 or 50 mph.

I can answer the kittens bit for you. I have it on very good authority that everytime a # is used outside of Twitter a kitten dies........... Hence the shortage of kittens running around in 30 mph limits

Yeah that's a good point, shouldn't have assumed it was a built up area.

I was asked the other day by an insurance co if I had been on a Speed Awareness Course. I questioned why they should know and he blathered on about it being relevant to the stats. He wasn't so sure about whether it was a legally pertinent question.

So you could end up paying £150 AND getting stung by the insurance in any event.

So in summary ...
you were in your 'own world', thinking about work, had your wife and kids in the car, still noticed the jag xf taking off at the lights quickly and ended up doing 45 in a 30 zone you travel reasonably regularly ?

I'd take the course if offered, might be a good reminder?

I can check if you would like but I am pretty sure that above 42 its straight to magistrates.

won't be able to check until friday though.

also they have 14 days to send it out, so if you have not heard anything after about 17-18 days then you should be fine.

Speed doesn't kill, speed at the wrong place and time does, and we are all guilty of it, so I am certainly not going to preach to anyone. Good luck mate

If it's only 3 I'd rather take the points than waste a day being patronised on the course if it's offered.

My wife got a 45 in a 30 a year or so back. She didn't notice the 30 sign as she was dealing with a pathetic staff squabble on her hands free at the time. She didn't qualify for an awareness course, but just got the 3 points (no magistrates involved)

I think a lot of these stupid restrictions are due to noise levels for the nearby houses as much as speed safety.

Surely, these people realise it's going to be noisy next to a dual carriageway when they move there?

It's like people who move into a new build (not realising the surrounding area didn't want the new homes built), then complaining when more new homes are planned and built 10 years later.

35 to 50 is fixed penalty. 35 to 42 is option to go on a speed awareness course. Over 50 is a summons to court.

I checked today and that is what is on the front of the ticket book.

If you have had a speed awareness course in the last 3 years then that rules you out for another and its points.

Only straight to court for 50 and above, my bad for getting it wrong before.

Cheers, I was well under 50 and the last time I was caught was longer than 3 years ago.

I still won't waste my time with the speed awareness course though.
