I saw that on facebook, I've personally brushed it off as facebook hysteria, whilst I'm sure it's possible to do, my experience of these machines is that their capability to deliver the function efficiently in a shop is somewhat limited.

I won't be losing sleep over it and also you'd have to be in a place full of that type of character, something I avoid like the Zika virus.

It's very real... has been for some time.

We actually have card 'blockers' at work to disrupt the signals. Clever.

yeh and the issuing back holds money for 30 days. In 30 days any fraud they freeze the whole account. Very few companies are more powerful than Visa and MC. Im sure only domestic transactions work on contactless.

I wonder how these scammers would get the cash out. Also the chips have very small range. its likely a begger who takes card!

Or just stick to the old fashioned way of sticking your card in and make sure no vermin watches you put in the pin.

Lol seriously this is simple.

Nfc is real easy, however it is not that prevelant yet.

Also main cyber threats are not going for cards, it's low budget skimming people.

Mainly just script kiddies, those learning or getting the hardware already set up.

One thing we were discussing today was how to target people with new tech gadgets at home.

If someone can afford a an intelligent fridge, heating system, there is a pretty good chance the house is worth breaking in to.

Just keep two cards together. If I present my wallet at a POS, it says please present 1 card.

Had a bit of a dig in to this story.

It appears that it may have been staged in Russia.

So obviously anything coming out of Russia is likely bit of a half truth.

So yes you can do it, that is not the worry though.

You can grab details of your card and decrypt it.

This then would in theory allow access to your entire account or possibly cloning.

My bank sent me a contactless card last year, I cut it up and asked them to send me one that wasn't contactless, had it two days later. Hopefully there'll always be the option to have cards that aren't contactless

Don't you need to activate the contactless functionality in the first place to make it available?

There was nothing included with the card that indicated that. In fact the opposite, once the card was activated for use, the contactless would have started working automatically.
