Calculating E30 Blend
Trying to figure out how to properly calculate an e30 blend so I can run the BM3 Stg 1 e30 OTS. BMW states that the m240i has a 13.5-gallon tank, but the other day when I ran my car to empty (dashboard said 3 miles to empty) and filled it up, it was 12.5 gallons.
I know e30 means 70 (93) / 30 (e85) blend but how many gallons of e85 would I need to put in before filling up the rest with 93? Also, do I need to gap my spark plugs for e30? |

The miles left on tank isn’t 100 accurate when it shows 0 you usually have a little less then the gallon, and the miles left on tank changes on how you drive also

I'm assuming it's better to have a little more than less ethanol when trying to reach that e30 calculation?

Fellas I am going to try the stg 1 e30 ots map tonight with stock spark plugs and only other mod is the xHP stage 2 transmission flash. My only question is how do I go back to 93. Do I just run the tank until empty then fill up with 93 and flash back?

Appreciate that! I think I've read somewhere on stock fuel pumps bmw recommends no more the e20. Is that true? I figured if I'm not consistently running e30 100% of the time. Probably twice a month 5 gallon mixtures each time itll be okay.

Fellas ran stg 1 e30 ots 2.0 and holy shit did the car become a rocket. Had my two cousins with me in the car and I didnt expect it to pull as hard as it did. Crazy story but I got pulled over for doing 78 in a 55, but earlier i was doing 100 then did a pull up to 140, so got really lucky he clocked me at 78. The cop was real cool and let me off the hook (literally handed me my license, insurance card, and registration) and told me to slow it down.
My damn Dragy was dead, but I was able to get one datalog for the night. Model: B58 Stage: 1 OTS Version: 2.0 Octane Map: e30 Brand-Octane Fuel Used: Mobil e85 + Mobil 93 Link: http://www.bootmod3.net/log?id=5d296b08ae729b026c8774ab Observations: No throttle closure - fast as shit Mods: BM3, xHP Stage 2 Transmission Flash - everything else stock Car felt freaking awesome, like a rocket. Can't wait to go e30 stg 2. I don't think I will be going back to 93 now that I'm on the corn train!!! |

I usually let the car get down to about a quarter tank and then I know I can put 11 total gallons in (340i). So, I may not have a completely full tank when filling but I know my ratio is correct.
I also use the calculator posted above. |

Yes, you can. I was running stock plugs on Stg 1 and 2 E30 OTS with all supporting mods and really didnt have any issues. I upgraded my spark plugs anyway to NGK 94201 and had them gapped to .022 because I will be running a meth or port injection kit sometime soon. I have ordered a JB4 and will use it along with BM3 (BEF).
I've run Stg 1 and Stg 2 on the stock fuel pump with no issues. You will only start having issues I believe once you go above E40 and then again its all based on your tune and goals. I believe you can run straight E85 but you would have to limit boost/load a lot or you will crash the HPFP, so really not worth it. |
