My wheels were badly corroded and had some minor kerb marks.
Been looking for a new set of wheel for a while, but most of them are in the similar condition which means a refurb will be needed at some stage. I got the full set powdercoated and diamond cut. What can I say, they look like as If I just bought the wheels brand new. They weld the kerb marks with aluminum and then machine it down so after they cut them, the wheels are like new. One point to note, I did notice a small chip already on the hub, not sure how it happened,I haven't spotted it on the collection, so probably happend in my custody.. I might bring them back, or maybe just touch up with the laquer. |

Look great !
It's a real shame that BMW still continue to diamond cut wheels.

Had my 442Ms replaced a few months before the initial 3yr warranty was up but it's a pain knowing this set will start to rot in another 2yrs or so.

when you powder coat them what happens exactly, don't you lose that shiny surface finish? thats what i would like to preserve with mine, if possible. also, how much did it cost and where? would appreciate if you could take some close up shots and with some kind of light shining on them... if thats possible. thanks |

The fact they are not suitable for our climate seems to make no difference in many user's choice. |

No the finish is identical to a factory wheel. When I collected them I could not tell they were mine. They looked absolutely like a brand new product. The only difference is they use powder coat clear coat instead of a ordinary lacquer, so its more durable and resistant to scratches and so on.
First they dipped them in the acid to strip all the paint, then sand blast them and repair the dents, etc. Then they paint them, then diamond cut them with a laser CNC machine and then clear powder coat. I will upload some more photos in a few days. Im based in Ireland so probably not good to you guys, but I believe anyone that has a Diamond cutting machine is able to do the job. |

Also what was most surprising for me, that BMW and other dealers use their services all the time.
They obviously dont want the full job done, but just a diamond cut and a lacquer to keep the costs down. So obviously when people have issues with wheels and so on, you'll find most of them are just refurbished to a high standard rather then getting a new set of wheels, and honesty it would be very hard to tell these arent new |

Yep, they have to be choosing them in ignorance. They are ignorant of just how badly they last, plus about 85%of the cars I see round this way have expensive wheels on them that seem to get ZERO maintenance anyway. Thick with brake dust, never been washed and kerbed to hell.

Then add that many premium/performance cars are running tyres in a dreadful condition, or some unknown cheapo tyres. |

If so, the wheels still have the 12 month warranty.

What did you pay if you don't mind me asking? I need to get the full set of 21s on my X5 refurbed at some point and have been quoted c.£400 for powdercoating and then diamond cutting.

Diamond cut wheels do look good when they're new - shame it's just not such a practical finish. Wonder if satin chrome would give a similar sort of look as diamond cut?

Diamond cuts are an absolute pain to look after but as has already been said, look super when new and when properly maintained.
I'm having the diamond cuts on my E63 refurbished in a couple of weeks by a BMW dealer followed very swiftly with a layer of Poorboys!
