My car didn't come with the "M" badge on the front fenders, I kinda wish the original owner hadn't ordered it deleted.

Maybe you could "M" it there?

To "M" or not aside, I detest the new black badging because the font is hideous. I guess as long as they're throwing decades of design language out, why be consistent with badging?

I want to get rid of my xdrive badge and assemble a "340xi" badge.

My M-sport has lone M's on the fender which I suspect are aftermarket (as they are faded after only 40K miles). I want to replace those with lone "x"s.

I have a factory 340i xDrive M Sport that strolled through the M Performance catalog. I would have bought a F80 M3 but I wanted AWD and the new B58 seemed to be a better engine design than the S55 at the time. I too dumped the xDrive emblem which cluttered up the back but did get the black aftermarket 340i badge for it's subtle look on mineral grey but it's not an exact font match to the chromed originals but it looks ok. I too thought about adding the X in 340iX. I also contemplated putting the ///M next to the 340i for a few minutes but couldn't bring myself do it. End of day there are enough legit ///M's on the car from the MPPSK, brake calipers, factory wheels, and interior bits and displays to make me feel like I have a special BMW model. It's your car to do as you please but anyone who owns a BMW will know. I guess it comes down to who you're trying to impress.

In my country, we have 418i's with M4 badges and exhausts.. why would someone ever give a M badge to a 3 cylinder 4 Series...? yuck!

Regarding the aftermarket's black badging's hideous font I couldn't agree more! I had them and it was always a sore spot for me. Thought about painting the originals on several occasions but didn't want to chance doing a botched paint job. After reading your post you inspired me to see if there were any authentic looking 340i emblems in gloss black out there now and I found some exact reps in size and font on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Emblem-Replac...ps%2C63&sr=8-2

I frankly don't care much about whether or not someone rebadges their car. I do think it's a little cheesy but honestly not a big deal.

I do have to say, asking the question about the difference between things when one actually exists and one doesn't exist is pretty funny to me.
