Updating car SW
All,
I have a F33 2015. My workshop advised me to run a full SW update of all components of the car to the latest version. Asking in here. What is the general consensus? Do you guys seek the latest SW of the car or is it more towards "if it ain't broken, don't fix it"? |

I won't let my car even see the inside of a BMW shop, knowing that they'll update the software, and in the process not only wipe all my coding but also permanently remove some coding options.

In most cases the "if ain't broken, don't fit it" applies. That being said, I had issues when it was cold that I'd get a "idrive running when car is off error" on every start (once the battery got lower) as well as issues with the variable sport steering being really notchy.
They did the updates on those modules during the last service visit, and fixed them both. As a FYI, BMW typically never does any updates unless there is an issue that is prompting them to address. Is the shop a BMW one, or indy that just wants to make a bunch more cash? |

There have been multiple reports here of dealers doing updates without asking, going back at least five years. The least serious result is no longer being able to code more than three turn signal blinks, the most serious is a locked DME. That's what prompted me to forgo my last two 'free' oil changes.
