Hi all,
I have purchased a turbo blanket kit from Funk Motorsport, and I just wondered if anyone else has one?
If so, do you take the turbo off to fit it, or is it possible to do while still on the car?
I'd appreciate any tips as I have a quote for 10hours labour for my local specialist to fit it by taking the turbo off.

Their install video for reference:

The install looks identical to the PTP turbo blanket install I did. No you don't need to take off the turbo but you do need to take off the turbo support bracket which can be incredibly time consuming to do and requires two people IMO. I did it in my driveway without removing the turbo and it took a total of 9 hours. I imagine an experienced shop could do it in 4 - 5 hours without removing the turbo.

Wow, I think my attempt at doing it in an hour was very ambitious then! Haha.
I have a friend who said they would give me a hand. Did you jack the car up and do anything from underneath?

Yes the easiest way to reach the Turbo support brace is to lift the car and get under it with a long extension. Make sure you soak the brace in some penetrant 30min - 1hr before you get to it since that bolt goes through a bunch of heat cycling and tends to get seized.

Buy a swivel socket and a couple of feet in extensions I promise you it's worth it. I believe if you turn the wheel all the way out you can get a good view and fish the extension through the suspension components to get to the brace. Also get yourself a nice small flashlight!

Edit: I replaced my bolt with a hex head as I believe the OEM bolt is a star pattern and it's hard to get a socket into it from that angle. I'm not going to lie installing that blanket the first time was almost worse than when I installed my pure850.

Fitted it today. The turbo bracket was a right pain! All in it took me 9 hours.

Interesting product and concept. But shall we talk about the elephant in the room .... ?
Decrease in engine bay temperature and IAT is a clear win, but what about the increase in turbo housing temperature (==> Reduced turbo reliability, increased EGT and charge air temperature)?

I'd rather fancy an upgraded heat-shield solution. Would be clearly less efficient than a blanket for reduction of IAT, but would have minimum to no effect on the turbo itself.

I did a lot of reading before going ahead with it. And from what I've read/watched, I thought I would give it a go.
Of course, if it causes a failure then I'll let everyone know and have to get it fixed.

Some Sources I looked at:
