I-drive traffic camera warnings
All of a sudden the car is giving me traffic camera warnings... for a while I thought it was the phone doing it until I went out to the store without the phone and realized the car was doing it. Is this a new thing? Had the car since June, and there is a slew of traffic cameras in my neighborhood and it didn't do this before...an OTA update maybe?
PS I'm not complaining... |

In my case a female voice says "speed camera in zero point one miles" and the chime/gong (similar to the seat belt gong) sounds...
It also does it only in the direction the speed camera is, ie if I'm coming to the same intersection from a direction that does not have the camera it won't say it. Loving it. |

I'll try posting video. Maps are pretty current, checked a couple of days ago and some states were showing 2019. I'll post a pic.
BTW how does one post a vid? Use YT? |

[QUOTE=im_an_alien;25469961]I have both a 2016 & 2020 MY iDrives and I know those systems like the back of hand; neither has traffic camera alerts, that's why I spent $650 on an Escort Max 360 radar detector.
The 2020 does indicate where there is traffic cameras and some vehicles in Europe also gives you a countdown on the light change, of which its legality is sketchy here in North America, so we don't get that. If I had to make a guess; your phone is streaming audio from an APP that's playing on vehicle's speaker, indicting traffic camera locations. |

This video was made with the phone on airplane mode, bluetooth off, radar detector unplugged. Still getting the warning. Start at 0:40 to about 0:55
Edit: the chime at the end occurs only when reaching the intersection, i.e if traffic was stopped for a red light and I'm several cars back the chime won't come until i reach the intersection. Last edited by im_an_alien; 11-17-2019 at 07:39 PM.. |

What State is this intersection in? Not OTA Nav updates, but do you have other car updates enabled or have you been to Dealer prior to this starting? About how long ago did it start? If you go through all the NAV and Vehicle Settings, is there any place you see traffic camera alerts checked as an option? |

I'm in Pembroke pines FL. And no, haven't been to dealer or changed anything since buying the car in June. Lived at the same address, drive through that intersection daily, and the warnings just started about a month ago. Now it's actually a red light camera, not a speed camera like they have in Europe. I spent hours digging through my phone settings when it started because i thought it was the phone. It does it even when i don't have the phone with me. No idrive settings as far as i can see. The red light camera has been there years...

I don't know what the sat nav lady sounds like in the US, but that sounds identical to the voice from my Blackvue dash cam.
I appreciate Blackvue dashcams don't have speed camera warnings, but I believe some of the better Thinkware ones do. Could it be your dashcam (if fitted) ? |

If an actual warning doesn't come up on the iDrive screen, then it's not your iDrive.
Could be the previous owner hardwired a radar detector with a speaker behind the dash. Or some other auxiliary system that monitors your GPS location. My radar detector does the same thing. |

Perhaps...I just went out without my phone and also removed the radar detector completely from the car, still getting it. I'm stumped, what else could it be...maybe one of those integrated radar detectors I'm hearing about? car was purchased as CPO from a BMW dealer in NC. Whatever it is, it's getting power from the car, if it was say a phone forgotten in the car it would have gone dead by now. The fact that it only chimes precisely when I'm at the light is also a mystery.
Oh well.... |

The voice and the gong do not sound like the BMW standard voice nor gong at least judging from the video.
With that said, I do not doubt you on iota just extremely odd. Why don't you adjust your map updates to be for the FL area which is done through the connecteddrive portal? |
