Talking Active Autowerke N55 Catted Downpipe No CEL Guarantee!

ACTIVE AUTOWERKE BMW N55 DOWNPIPE
BMW introduced a new valvetronic, single turbo version of its direct-injection engine for the F-Chassis models beginning in 2012. The Active Autowerke N55 downpipe for the M235i, 335i, 435i and M2 helps unleash some of the potential that is restricted by the OEM downpipe.

Turbochargers are powered by spent exhaust gases created during the combustion process. The quicker these gases are evacuated, the better. Unfortunately, the factory down pipe in the N55 is quite restrictive, which results in slower exhaust gases and slower turbo spool.

The Active Autowerke F-Chassis N55 Signature down pipe utilizes 3.5” diameter stainless steel piping in order to provide more power, quicker spool, and extreme durability.

This variant includes a 49-state legal EPA approved 4.5" high flow GESI catalytic converter that will NOT produce a CEL! EPA N/GBL/4389/1119

FEATURES:
  • NO CEL when using this downpipe
  • Designed to be as unrestrictive as possible
  • GESI EPA approved
  • High flow 4.50" GESI cat with 3.50" piping allows for maximum power output
  • Quicker turbo spool
  • Rated for 500 to 850 hp applications
  • Withstands up to 1500° F
  • Can reach operational efficiency within 9 seconds of startup
  • Easily bolts-on – no cutting or welding required
  • Durable construction from TIG welded 304 stainless steel
  • Precise fitment
  • Modular design for later upgrades
  • Made in Miami, Florida
  • ACTIVE AUTOWERKE N55 SIGNATURE DOWNPIPE BENEFITS

The speed of a turbo’s impeller wheel is limited by exhaust back pressure. A larger down pipe relieves some of this pressure, resulting in quicker and more efficient spool. With Active Autowerke’s Signature downpipe, your N55 can rev quicker, and deliver more horsepower and torque.

Minimizing back pressure while remaining daily drive-ability was the goal of our N55 downpipe. Owners can now upgrade to a product that is affordable, reliable, and easy to install.

After months of research and development, our engineers settled on a 3.5” diameter pipe which utilizes the least number of bends possible. However, the Signature N55 down pipe still fits easily into the OEM location, with a painless installation process.

Constructed entirely from 304 stainless steel with 1.5MM wall thickness, we are confident that you’ll be pleased with how robust and durable this down pipe is. Trouble-free installation and a long lifespan ensure that you’ll enjoy many miles of performance with your N55!

Similar to question above, is this available for EWG with 4'' turbo outlet? OP doesn't specify.

Also, pricing and when will it be available? I am planning to buy a downpipe soon... like within the next week. I have been debating between CG and Fabspeed, but would consider this option as well.

Would also like to know the cells per square inch answer, and see a picture of inside (the cat). I imagine it might be something like 400, or very expensive, if it is EPA legal.

EDIT: Just found it on XPH currently "on sale" for $949, so in the range of the other non-CEL DPs. However, there is no option for selecting EWG or PWG model. Which one is this made for?

Not really, FabSpeed with guaranteed & proven NO CEL & passes emissions here in PA is still $1186 even on sale - difference of $237

AA pipe would be a good alternative, but I would like to wait for some real world experience with NO CEL & 49 State Emissions Legal claims

Also be nice to see some AA Flow charts to compare to OEM & FabSpeed

Can someone confirm if the features on this DP will show the cat in a ready state?

It's not the cat that determines a ready state, it's your tune. With this DP you can run stock tune, so all monitors ready, but get no CEL.

You might be able to pass emission with a downpipe and a tune but that does not make it legal. This is the only pipe thats EPA legal.

I found this for a different GESI catted dp.

"The GESi Metal Core Catalytic Converters have been designed to provide a reliable solution to the most common converter problems experienced by other brands with out having an absorbanent cost. They are considered a 300cell but as bench tested, flow more than the HJS 200 cell cat. "

Yeah it looks like they just copy/paste a lot of the generic description for the cats into their DP description. For example see here:

https://www.verociousmotorsports.com...tic-Converters

Several of the bullets about the HP/temp rating, time to reach operational efficiency, etc. Not saying that's a bad thing; I'm sure all vendors that use these cats use the same info.

The quote you posted seems to be from Agency Power's 911 turbo exhaust info. I see it on vivid racing and amazon. If the flow information is true, thats a key factor, but i don't see any actual data to support the claim.

I am still on the fence between AA and Fabspeed. I'm sure the AA will be great, i just wish there was some real world feedback, but too soon to tell. Fabspeed has the proven track record, which is the thing making the decision more difficult, and with the current sales, the decision has to be made quickly.

We have a check engine light guarantee on this product. Actually we have been Testing the n55 version of this downpipe on my customers M2 for over a year and he just hit 12k miles and is still Cel free.

It works and it works well

I have an AA Stage 2 tune with a Fabspeed catted DP and Akropovic exhaust. Were the AA downpipe available when I bought the Fabspeed I wouldn't have hesitated. The support I've received from AA with my tune has been outstanding.

There were reports here that AA was working on that DP quite awhile back and as Andrew has confirmed, it is been thoroughly tested. And with their guarantee you can't really go wrong.

I understand that the main product feature of this catted downpipe is not throwing a CEL. I'm curious if there has been any performance testing? Ideally a dyno test using the same car with an efficient model of catless downpipe as a comparison. That would provide a real world flow efficiency percentage. Guys who are catless fans always like to claim that a catted downpipe gives up a lot of performance so that number would be good to know.

Unfortunately I do not have a base dyno run but I just installed the downpipe and recorded full process, DIY thread coming on this install as well as a full vlog of the install.

Been in the car for a week now super happy with results, no CEL of course as advertised!
