Lease Turn In to Purchase CPO?

I did not see a specific Leasing subforum, so, mods, please move appropriately if you can't leave it here, thank you.

Doing a bit of advance planning, but am somewhat still new to leasing. I am now just past one year leasing an about-to-be-orphan as the low volume GTs are not being replaced with the new platform, but it works well for me...2018 330xi GT. The current used car value is already below the buyout.

By the time it's 3 years old at lease end, I assume the actual market value will be further below the residual value of $30,700. What is the best way to turn it in, negotiate with BMWFS or the dealer(?) for a realistic market value price at that time (which is what it would see for to anyone else), and re-buy it CPO?

Appreciate any suggestions, especially from any Sales Advisors here.

Thanks!

The dealer had the possibility to market value the lease end until last summer July/Aug area. Your current GT has to be registered to a different name for dealer to market value it. There might be a gray area a dealer works around btw but haven't worked one yet to learn them ropes. Now you have to buy at residual or drop off and pick up new or cpo. $350 dep fee if you find a different brand. One deal I'm partially familiar with was a client had a 528 lease end and sold him a 550 cpo same year for about same residual.

from this info and I'm sure you've already had reasons but lease numbers on X3 30i or 430 gc would be better and hold resale then a 3 GT.

Thanks for that tip. I can ask about the ownership name issue, using spouse name, etc. I plan to buy vs lease and just hold this one ad infinitum at a part-time residence as a family car. That is why it struck me as a possible good deal. Still plan to get a new G platform-something for most usage. Thanks!

Under current BMW rules the dealer can’t negotiate the residual with anyone in the same household. They can only sell it below the residual value to someone in a different household.

Call BMWFS, they will meet you in the middle. You can also bring your own financing as well, but you may lose out on CPO.

I'm looking to do the same on my F31.

Incorrect.

BMWFS will not negotiate buyout for $1 less than residual with the leaseholder (or anyone for that matter). Period.

This can only be done at Dealership and at set discount as detailed above and in other threads as of the date of this post.

Things may be different (or not) by the time your lease is up.

I confirmed this with BMWFS the other day.

BMWFS will not negotiate with customer on buyout.

You were informed incorrectly.

Anyone have experience with how much the dealer will negotiate below residual?

It's not a negotiation as the max they can drop to is capped.
