Car Died Last Night - Any thoughts on root cause
Message:
Fuel Supply - Full drive performance not available - Drive moderately. Consult service center The low reserve fuel light had just come on about 1 min earlier, 49 miles left. I always run to this level and then fill with a mixture of 93 oct and e85 go give me about e50. The above message popped up and the car lost power and ran really rough. I pulled into an alley and the car died. I then got a Drivetrain Malfunction message but I think that was a result of the above message. Anybody ever get this message? I'll check the fuel pump after it stops raining, I have the stock pump assemble I can install and I have a spare Walbro that I can replace the current one with if necessary. I've been running the Walbro 450 in there since last summer with no issues. Thanks for any input you can give.

And you weren't out of gas, right? A coworker of mine just had something similar happen in her 320i where the distance remaining was like 20-30 miles, but she ran out.

I did add some gas from a can, but it didn't help. 2013 335xi N55 F30 82,000 miles
When I get home from work today I'll add some more gas and try it again.

Did you get any codes? If so can you post them?
Sounds like your could've EKP possibly died which is why it won't start up even after you filled it with gas. |

That is my concern as well. I have never gotten an EKP code, I'm still on stock turbo and no PI. I'll check the codes with JB4 and probably pick at a scanner to check for codes, if there are any I will post.

ok, it is an issue with my fuel pump assembly. I removed the bucket and pump and replaced it with the stock bucket and pump and the code is gone and no issues now. Not sure what failed, I don't believe the pump failed but maybe the pressure sensor failed. I'll rebuild it and reinstall it and test it out.
thanks for all of your input!

*Update
2 days after changing my LPFP back to the stock unit I was driving on the highway heading out for beer and fish for dinner and my car died again. The first time, 2 days earlier, I had code 11A002A Fuel Pressure Below Target. This time I got the codes 110001 Cylinder injection shutdown: too low pressure in the high pressure system, 11A002 Fuel pressure below target and 11A031 No Description Found. I ordered a new HPFP and will install that along with my new injectors that I already had.

Thanks man, I appreciate it! If it is the HPFP that will exonerate the Walbro LPFP which would be nice, then I can re-install that! I'll post an update after installing the HPFP and injectors.

Most likely LPFP Control module.
Lots of people don't think anything about it even though in the description of the upgraded LPFP's it says that the new pump will draw more amps than the original pump, which in the end can cause the LPFP module to overheat and eventually fail. That's likely what happened here. Check out "BPM4 Low Pressure Fuel Pump Controller EKP replacement" if you'd like to continue running the Walbro 450 or any upgraded LPFP or you can get a new oem unit #16147371832
