Can I lock key in the car from dashboard button

Really specific question here, hoping someone has the answer, old threads didnt cover this use case, I have an F32 with comfort access and need to do afterhours pickup from a body shop and i want them to just lock the key in the car.

Can they just stow the key away and use the central locking button on the dashboard?

No you cant use the central locking button if the door is open. If it detects the key inside it will automatically unlock all the doors.

here is my plan.
1. Buy a rf insulation bag (avaliable on amazon) which blocks the key detection. I suspect tin foil also works.
2. Lock the car ouside with one people staying inside the rear trunk
3. The guy inside the car use emergency trunk release to leave the vehicle. Which does not unlcok the car.
4. Put key in the bag and throw into the car.
5. Close the trunk.

Have them lock the car, then open just the trunk. Take the battery out of the fob, put the fob and battery in a small plastic bag, put it in the trunk, close the trunk.

thanks for the replies, I actually figured out a simpler solution....

As noted the car won't lock with the key inside ( they tried)

What will work: I told them put the key in and call me when they left the car for the day. I used the app and locked it remotely! I guess the app overrides all. Considering if you can lock it with the app then you can unlock with the app.

Umm. I can press lock with the trunk open, and then when I close the trunk, the car locks. Wouldn't it be easier to:

1. Open the trunk and close all doors.
2. Lock the car with the fob.
3. Put the fob in the RF insulator bag
4. Put the bag in the trunk
5. Close the trunk.

Doesn't unlocking with the app require you to end up speaking with someone at BMW Assist? It used to be that way, at least--you hit unlock on the app, and it called BMW through the app.

Here is how you can do it: If you put the key into the trunk and close the lid, the car will know you are an idiot and the lid will pop open. If you immediately close it again, the car assumes you really want to do it and the lid stays closed.

Can you not use the valet key?

So if the dealership puts the fob in the car, and then locks the car with the mechanical key, how does OP get the mechanical key back when he does an after hours pickup?

I believe if you use the lock button on the app, in case you left car unlocked by accident yes it does work but it will not activate the alarm. if you use app to lock car the alarm is not engaged. but the car does lock though. It says it somewhere in the alarm owners manual I am referring to the 340i, which came standard with alarm. I am not sure how it works with other cars though...

See #9. on below link from BMW Connected Drive...

9. When I lock my vehicle, is my anti-theft alarm also activated?
The alarm is not activated when the vehicle is locked using the My BMW Remote app.
