Good evening all,

I'm very happy with my "new" second hand 328i, one owner from new, who seemed to take very good care of it. A few features I would have coded in, he's already done - so thats good news. I've subsequently done a few more tonight though like digital speed display on the kombi and that kind of thing.

I noticed when trying to access the FEM_BODY module though I get an error :

CAFD_FFFFFFFF_255_255_255 Fehler: File for "cafd_ffffffff-255_255_255" not found! [C012]

Now, first time I've tried to access this, so I suspect it was from when the previous owner coded some changes. I've not noticed any adverse side effects. So is it a problem? Can I leave it like this and just accept I cannot code these settings? Or will it cause me issues? Or perhaps it already is but I've just not noticed?!

I've obviously googled it and everyone says it's corruption - possibly the connection was lost or power during the coding previous. I don't know sadly. I also see it is possible to fix. Is this particularly easy and in doing so, would I lose all the already coded settings? Or settings configured through the idrive itself?
Or like I said before, is it okay to leave it in it's current state?

Thanks in advance guys!

Click on the ECU/ FEM_Body
Look at the right side, you should see : DETECT CAF
Click on it, select a CAFD and then press CODE.

Thanks, what does this do? Repair that module?

How does it do this - does it repair with any existing setting or does it put it back to defaults etc? Are there any other knock on effects or afters I should be aware about?

Sorry, just want to be 100% in the steps I'm taking, to ensure there's no fallout. Thanks

The CAFD is like a configuration file.
Sometimes it happens that the CAFD gets lost.
A lost CAFD is not a problem at first, because the ECU has permanently saved the values and, so to speak, does not notice anything of the lost CAFD.
So if you have no problems you can leave it that way.
Or if it bothers you, you can assign a new CAFD and code the ecu with it.
The CAFD includes all important coding data for your car.
After coding with the new CAFD all codings will be set to standard.

When I tried to read the coding data of my FEM_BODY ECU I got the error:

-----
"Transaktions-Report: Aktion: Codierdaten lesen

FEM_BODY [40] [Kxxxxxx]
readCPS o.k.
CAFD_00000794_018_070_005 Fehler:
File for "cafd_00000794_018_070_005" not found! [C012]

-----

So, if I understand the above correctly, I can create the CAFD for FEM_BODY. Will this created file have the values from the ECU or the standard values as read from the PSdZData files?

If the last is the case, this may mean that some settings may get lost, right?

If you now create a new CAFD it will have standard values and all your codings will be lost.

Thanks. I haven’t done any codings yet. According to me everything is as it came from factory.

When I create a new CAFD will then all settings as they are now remain the same, or can setting get lost? In other words, are the standard setting the standard for my car / factory options?

Exactly.
If you did in codings all settings are still standard.
And the standard settings are for your car (like from Factory).

Didn't get any further with this. The 'Detect CAF' button is grey and can't be used.

Any clues on how I can proceed?

You are using exactly the most problematic E-Sys version.
The 3.28 makes always problems by detecting caf for swe and some other things.
So use the 3.27 or 3.30.
The newer versions maybe will not work together with your launcher.

Updating the PSdZData did the trick. I was able to read and recode FEM_BODY now.
