F30 328i fuel consumption!

Hi all just wondering what everyone is getting for fuel consumption on there F30's as I have a n20 328i and am currently getting around 12.5 l/100km.

Is this roughly the normal consumption for the 328i? For me it seems like it's a bit more than what should be for a 4 cylinder haha!

Thanks Aus forum

Hey Mate,
F30 328i 2014 I get around 9L/100km average.
I guess it depends how you drive it too? I'm generally on comfort with eco on the freeway. Sport when I feel I need that surge of power.

Are you driving on sport all the time?

I drive in sport all the time and get just under 9L/100km

50/50 city/freeway

Are you only doing short stop start trips?

Freeway only I get around 1000km per tank but city only I get about 650km

Yours sounds like its chewing through gas quite high

I doubt it, would take years to see a dramatic decline in fuel economy.

I rang BMR to get mine done as it has hit just over 100,000 klms and they said it would be a waste of money, maybe at 200,000 but 100,000 is overkill.

I barely drive in sports mode always in comfort and not much stop start traffic, I always thought it was fairly high for a 4 cylinder! Wonder why that is

Mine is very low 7-8l but I spend 25-30min at >100km/hr of a 35-40min trip to work. 5 days a week. 40km trip each way

I had my 328 for about 3 years and in that time averaged approx 8.4

My 340 I've had for 2 years has averaged 8.8

I drive mostly highway and mostly in comfort.

YMMV

I guess it depends. So I took out my air intake, turbo inlet pipe and did a GFB DV+ install along with the turbo inlet from MST today.

I noticed that there was oil and gunk in my inlet pipe and some parts of my air intake. See photo attached.
From what I've checked online this is also what goes into the combustion chamber and causes buildups on the valves. This in turn can also lead to poor fuel economy such as in OPs case. I wouldn't be surprised if the buildup on mine is going to be bad. Perhaps in such situations a walnut blast followed by the adding of a oil catch can might be beneficial.l as opposed to waiting till 200k kms.

OP have you got any mods on your car? Have you done any diagnostics or assessments as to what it could possibly be?

No mods on the car just a 335i muffler but even before that it was consuming the same amount! And no I haven't had it assessed yet but after seeing everyone's thoughts on this forum I probably will

Definitely something not right with your car. I have driven from Melbourne to Sydney on less than 1 tank of fuel which surprised me.

I have a 2014 328i F31 with CAI, an axle back 335 M-Performance Exhaust running Bootmod3 Stage 1 and roof racks with bike racks. I drive Sports+ pretty much 100% of the time with manual shifting. My fuel economy is about 13.5L/100km. Pretty much all town driving (very little highway driving).

When i was behaving (and car was stock), i could average around 9L/100km with a mixture of town and highway. Individual trips could be below 6 if I drive conservatively.

The hell, my old 2014 328xi got 9L/100km city, 6.8-7L/100km highway @120kph.

My 2013 335xi right now gets 11L/100km city and 7.8-8L/100km highway.

Haha yeah if u drive in sport mode I'll get like 15L/100km always seemed high for me, but now I can see that it is considering everyone else is getting a lot better fuel consumption

Catch can was one of my first mods as I figured it would help with how much junk gets recirculated back into the engine.

How many KMs to a tank would you normally get on the 335ix?
